WIBTA if I told my friend I didn't want to go to Korea with her?

I (20 f) have been friend with M (also 20 f) for almost 16 years. She's about to be released from the army and wanted to go to a "post army trip" in South Korea and asked me to joined her. At first, I was excited. We planned to go for 3 weeks, a week and a half in Korea and a week and a half in Japan, since I've been wanting to go since I was 6, but then she started talking about how it's jot alot of time for either places, so I decided to drop Japan to only 1 week so she could be in Korea more, and she complained again and I made the choise to drop Japan completly to make her happy. Every time I tried to talk to her about what type of trip she wanted, where she wanted to stay and for how long, she kept changing her mind or completly ignoring and just sent me viral pictures or photos of places that have nothing to do with each other, causing me to plan all the stays we wanted, like an rbnb for the city we've planned to be at the most and hotels for places we planned to stay for only 2 or 3 days, but last week she began saying how she wanted to change dates for the smaller towns and wanted to drop the rbnb and get a hotel instead, despite knowing how uncomfortable I am with the idea of us sharing 1 room for 3 weeks, knowing that I'll be on that part of the month. I've also told her multiple times how I think 3 weeks is too long, and how I want to go for only 2, because unlike her, I have a job and also saving. This will be my first travel without family, and the first time we'll be on a trip that is longer then 2 days. I am annoyed that she keeps lying to me and giving me excuses about why she refuse to only go for 2 weeks (she keeps changing her reasons), but I am a huge people pleasure and we are also neighbors. I don't want to hurt her or for her to be mad at me, and at this point, I feel lost.

It's not just her holiday. She's organised nothing, so she doesn't know how much effort it is. Book what you want to do and anytime she wants a change, tell her to arrange everything and that you'll cancel your bookings when that is done. And then don't. But you need to speak up now. You should never have dropped your plans to visit Japan, because this is a long way to go and not do anything you dearly wanted to do. For all her claims, your friend isn't invested in this trip. You are. Stop taking her whims on board, rebook what you want to do and have a great time. If she goes her own way, even better.

I don’t think you need to cancel altogether, but you do need to be firm and let her decide. She can go solo or with another friend for the third week. I would tell her you’re going to do a week in Japan and a week in Korea. Tell her you aren’t confiable sharing a room but are open to hostels with private rooms for your if finances are a concern.

NTA Do not go with her! Neither of you will have a good time on this trip. You guys are different types of traveler. You are a planner and she is a go with the flow kind of traveler. This group dynamic only works if she follows you around with no complaints, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Just say you all of sudden have financial difficulty to go on this trip. Then put more money towards your saving.

I don’t think she’s lying and the plans are not changing as they are not set yet, she is still figuring things out and things are still in the fluid stage. Even if this is still the fluid stage, you have to make it clear as day that you will only be going for 2 weeks and you need your own private space. It’s not set in stone that you both have to fly back on the same day and if you’d rather have a week in Japan, let her know you’ll be with her for a week in S.K. and will then be moving on to Japan, although I would’t recommend this.

She's not going on a trip with you. Don't discuss the trip again. Don't respond to her random pictures. Don't waste any more time trying to arrange anything with your friend. If you want to go to Japan and Korea, plan your own trip. Go by yourself and have only yourself to please and accommodate, or go with someone else who would be a better travel companion.
