CONCEIT, begotten by the eyes,; For while it seeks our hearts to have, Meanwhile, there reason makes his grave; For many things the eyes approve, Which yet the heart doth seldom love.

For as the seeds in spring time sown Die in the ground ere they be grown, Such is conceit, whose rooting fails, As child that in the cradle quails; Or else within the mother’s womb Hath his beginning and his tomb.

Affection follows Fortune’s wheels, And soon is shaken from her heels; For, following beauty or estate, Her liking still is turned to hate; For all affections have their change, And fancy only loves to range.

Desire himself runs out of breath, And, getting, doth but gain his death: Desire nor reason hath nor rest, And, blind, doth seldom choose the best: Desire attained is not desire, But as the cinders of the fire.

As ships in ports desired are drowned, As fruit, once ripe, then falls to ground, As flies that seek for flames are brought To cinders by the flames they sought; So fond desire when it attains, The life expires, the woe remains.

And yet some poets fain would prove Affection to be perfect love; And that desire is of that kind, No less a passion of the mind; As if wild beasts and men did seek To like, to love, to choose alike.

Like most poems, my brain glazed over after the first two lines. It's just not natural english and so hard to understand, and reminds me of being stabbed with a pen in my arm by my English teacher for not paying attention.

Worth noting that 'affection' for him meant something like flash in the pan stuff, not feeling 'affectionate' for something. It's an interesting thing that you could think about social media and the kind of para-social relationships people have now with influencers, whose own internet lives flash and burn, while reading it. I like it. :-) I'd follow him on Insta based on his content. ;-)

I quite like it. Reminds me of whether Romeo and Juliet showed 'affection' rather than the true love they claim. They themselves turned to cinders in the fire of their passions.

While your question has been removed, it would probably be allowed with a bit of tweaking.

Repost ensuring you've not asked;

Basic throwaway questions which put most of the effort on our readers to figure out by parsing the body or having to ask you questions themselves (i.e. "What do I do?" - be more specific in the title).

"Anyone" questions which only seek to validate a proposition. (i.e, "Has anyone put the heating on yet?"). Yes, somebody always has, be more specific.

As well as being interesting and unique, questions must -

Have a genuine, clear, and concise question in their title - including a question mark.

Ensure you can say your question title to someone at a bus stop and have them understand what you mean. So for example, no "Overseas Territories?", instead it should be "What Overseas Territories have you been to?".

Enough information in the body of your post to allow users to give good answers. Specifically, don't just repeat the question in the body. Provide an elucidation, example, or explanation.
