It's how TalesFromTechSupport redditors used to write (haven't checked the sub in a long time) - lots of people wrote in this style, and the point wasn't the story, it was the satisfaction of having gotten revenge on manglement who kept messing with or underappreciating their IT staff.

The story definitely could have happened in small/medium companies and bosses with over-inflated egos aren't a rare commodity either.... As for the NDA, as long as they dont name the company nor posted either their real name, there's enough plausible deniability nothing would come out of it.. I think most people don't understand how NDA's work. Most of them aren't as strict as "never mention anything about anyone and forget about your workplace total severance style" and they're really loosely enforceable

Eh, tbf you can usually weasel your way into those (though they're called "graduate classes" not "masters classes"?) by emailing the professor and saying "your class is about XYZ and I'm super interested in XYZ and I have such background in studying XYZ please please please!" and they'll usually say yes (higher likelihood if they have tenure). But yeah, the whole story is bullshit lmfao 🤣🤣😂

Tl;dr: OP automated most of their job, got fired because the boss thought they weren't doing anything, the company fell apart during an audit after their replacement and a temp made a mess of everything, then they had to hire OP back as a contractor for a huge amount of money to fix it and document the system. There, hopefully helped you not waste your time.

I got fired. They asked me to finish a bunch of work. I said I wouldn't, because they fired me. Then they paid me a lot more money to finish the work.

In my state, that's not at all how unemployment works. My spouse got laid off, and they revoked unemployment benefits because he took one technical course to help make himself more employable. Going back to school would change your status. But I don't know if that's true for everywhere.
