I was walking home today when I found a restaurant with excellent reviews on google maps. Summarising them, googleAI said that ‘people recommend xxx dish’, and when I clicked into it, I saw a referenced review raving about this dish, and in it they described their ethnicity and how they would regularly order there when they studied near this place before.
I was the same ethnicity as them, so I assumed we’d have similar tastes in food and ordered it. Then the owner started staring at me which I found kinda weird at first. But then after a while, he handed me the food, and said with a big smile ‘great to have you back!’
Turns out this dish was a really niche and specific dish that no one ever ordered, and after checking the reviews, the one i saw recommending it was the only one out of thousands. He probably thought I was the same person as the one who left the very long and detailed review, and didn’t remember what they looked like at all. I just took what i ordered and left as it was a takeaway, but I’m embarrassed for no reason and am never going back.

I love when this happens. For a second you get to live the life of someone who has their shit together enough to be a regular somewhere.
Why wouldn't you go back? I would be the FAVORITE REGULAR.
Lean in! Being a regular is great.
What if the old regular comes back and finds out I stole their place 😔

If it was a good meal, then lean in! I have a take out/ takeaway place that knows me. I walk in. They all smile and whoever is cashier asks if I want #####. I smile and say yes. We talk as it's prepared. It's a highlight when I go in there. I originally went because it's the best damn sushi I've eaten. Now, I sometimes go when I just need a friendly smile.

You didn’t tell us if it was good or not.
It was a pretty great grilled artichoke and smoked cheese pizza, but I wouldn’t know how it’d compare to the more normal items haha
I’d go back just to commit to the bit; you accidentally inherited someone’s legendary regular status, that’s kind of awesome.
