Is it worth the trouble to take these apart, clean and re-lubricate? Should I just send it into shimano? This reel is probably 20 years old.
Oh man that reel is a tank. The old Calcuttas are built so simple, 20 years just means it's broken in good. If you got a bit patience and can keep track of small parts, definitely do it yourself. Sending in will cost you half of what the reel is worth on the shipping alone.
Well worth it. Clean it all up, deep clean the bearings, carbon drag swap, and go fishing. I've serviced countless Calcutta Bs over the decades.
