Hi, i am at Lektion 18 A1. I am using menschen. I am Here to ASK about Something. Now learning vocab Takes me a while. Not to know what a word means but to use each word in a sentence. Everyone who gives advice about language learning says, never to write down a word alone and to always use it in a sentence and this approach while it is working, it takes a lot of time. So where to put an end to this ? How do I practice vocab. I tried anki and it is not the best for me I am more of a physical pen and paper guy and making flash cards would take as much time. Do I set a timer limit ? Or justap out the most important 10 words ?

The problem is, if you find a way to make it take less time, that's less time you're spending concerning yourself with that item - which equates to less learning time. If you feel it's not working for you then go ahead and make changes, but of you're currently doing something that is resulting in progress, but you worry that it could be faster, my advice would be to just keep doing what you're doing. Spending less time with each item sort of sounds good, until you factor in that just using translation software is the fastest thing. And you learn virtually nothing. As a teacher,y aim is to maximise the amount of time each learner spends interacting with the language items the need to learn, hence all the games and activities and puzzle and so on. It's just in fact to keep the learners engaged with the thing and stop them trying to move on to the next thing, because the learners often don't know that "understanding" the item (e.g. by translation) is only actually a small step towards acquiring it. If you want to speed up, then use whatever helps you with that . But don't speed up because something has made you feel like your speed is a problem, cos it sounds like you've been doing the kind of deconstructing, reconstructing, reformulating and revisiting that I plan for hours to achieve.
It works but it goes like this. I spend 6 hours studying and after all that I find out I just used the words in sentences and I still need to memorize them. While now I can use deshalb, weil, danach, obwohl well, it makes me feel bad because online they say I can finish A1 in 2 months however I started at may and I am still 6 lessons away from finishing A1 3 months later. I had about a month of wasted time because of emergencies but still. And I am concerned with the timing because I need my B1 certificate to start my recognition process.
Learning a language does take time, there is no way around it. It take time, effort, and a great number of repetition of everything. People usually underestimate what it takes.
Believe me i know. This is my third language. It is that i don’t have the patience, because after reaching B1 i will have to wait for the paperwork to finish which will take 6+ months. The frustrating thing is that there is nothing i can do about it but keep studying until i am done, which is torture to my brain that likes planning and scheduling. Do you have a more efficient way to study vocab ? Or what should i try ? I came up with a strategy, i will write first thing in the morning using the words i studied last l. I will limit myself to 1 hour or 1 page so that time doesn’t slip away from me like it does now. Currently i can spend 4 hours writing sentences. Is this strategy good ?
