Are we talking about running?
No sorry! 😭 I meant the figurative first and last miles.
That first mile kills me. Last mile is a pleasure. But I’ve known others who feel the opposite. Just curious why people think they tend to sway one way or the other.

Last. I love the quote from the nice guys by Ryan gosling. She used to say I would hit nails in half way and stop. She wasnt wrong. It depends though. If its chores im blasting through once I start.
That last mile counter wipe down is one of life’s true pleasures.
I live my life a quarter mile at a time. For those 10 seconds or less I am free.
Ha I wish. My quarter mile takes about three weeks of procrastinating and a strong coffee first
Both
Middle mile warrior!
First kilometer is the hardest for me (I'm from Poland so no miles). Once I start rolling, I'm going.
I’m the same way. I run on inertia.
The way down better be clear sweet rolling potato.
idk if this counts as the first mile, but starting is the hardest part for me. once i’ve started that first mile is great. last mile is the worst for me, usually because i realise ive bitten off more than i can chew but HAVE to finish it all.
Exactly!!
i almost always struggle with the first mile because once i get started i usually don't want to stop until i'm done
The first mile often feels like a negotiation with your brain. There’s no rhythm yet, your body is still warming up, and every step feels heavier. Once you settle in, the last mile can feel like a reward. I wonder if people who enjoy the start are more motivated by the anticipation, while others get hooked by the momentum.
Well said. I think you’re on to something! Now how to train myself to get motivated by the anticipation…
The "punch list" stage of a project is the hardest for me. First mile is the easier of the two by far.
For physical tasks, starting is the hardest part. For mental tasks, finishing is the hardest part. I literally have to employ different tactica depending on the type of task.
First. Once started rhythm turns into habit.
I usually struggle to call something done, so last mile for sure, just keep tinkering till it’s just right
wrong question, the middle miles
The first mile, once I get going, it's a lot easier to keep the momentum.
I start things out great. Motivated, focused, organized. But then I get bored, bail, and often never finish. It’s terrible. I don’t know how to stay as energized at the end, as I am in the beginning. Any tips??
Morning obligations=struggle to start. My actual work and life=typically excited to start, run out of steam to finish. Unexpected work=struggle to accept then can do. Unexpected emergency=quick immediate clear head and response, adrenaline illness before it's over.
