It’s my first year hunting and scouting completely solo. There is a piece of private land I have the permission to hunt as well as set up trail cams on. Was wanting to get some help on potential good spots to put my two trail cams in order to gain good information before going into season.
I have a picture of the property and some areas I’ve marked with known info.
Blue - Small creek I’ve seen deer use in previous years
Yellow - Have seen deer here last year
Red - Have spotted deer this year mainly grazing soy beans
If anyone has any tips on where I should be putting my two trail cameras I’d appreciate it. Also if anymore information is needed about the property or location I’d be glad to share.
For the soy bean field, stick one right on the edge where the crops meet the treeline, deer will follow that cover before stepping out. the other i'd put near where the creek crosses close to your yellow mark, they love using water as a travel route, specially in early season.
Yeah figuring out the travel routes will help with seeing more deer.
How much are you allowed to scout? I'd get boots on the ground and see if you can find some sign and then put the camera out. Keep in mind they will change as the season rolls on. Bachelor groups break up and buck will spread out.
Without being on the ground it's hard to be exact but below is my best guess.
I should be able to scout a good bit. I was planning on going out this weekend and taking a good look.
In the woods find last years rub and scrape lines and place one on those. Where they cross the water shed and trails that lead into the field facing the fields. You'll have to get into the woods so spray down.
