If you find something you want on eBay, resist the urge to just hit "Buy It Now." Add it to your Watchlist or leave it in your cart, and then just close the app for a few hours.
I actually sell on eBay too, so I see this from the other side all the time. When you watch an item or leave it in your cart, eBay notifies the seller that someone is interested. Since we really want to make the sale and clear out inventory, eBay gives us a button to send a private discount (usually around 5% to 20% off) directly to anyone watching it AND for those who will watch it in the future.
I’ve found myself paying 25% less than I would’ve by receiving an offer and sometimes getting a counter offer accepted.

Good advice, I’ve been doing this for non-urgent items for a while now.
I sell on eBay, so I see this. It doesn't have to be in your cart, just your watchlist.
You can sometimes get sent them for items you only viewed, but watchlist is more reliable
One time I offered a seller 23 dollars for a thing, which they ignored. Then I got a private offer for 20 dollars literally right after my offer expired. I guess dude just wanted me to save money on something I was already wanting to buy.
Might be an unmonitored, algorithmic seller. They don’t check messages but do have something set up to send out discounts at a certain point
this is solid advice! i’ve snagged some good deals just by waiting a bit. sometimes sellers really do want to clear out their stuff, so it pays off to be patient!
