I (28M) was accused years ago when I was a teenager (16) of setting off a fire extinguisher in an apartment hallway. It ended up covering all the walls and doors in foam.
The thing is, I was with three friends the same age who actually did it and they pinned the blame on me and one other guy. The result? Only I and this other guy got a heavy fine and had to pay for the cleaning and the extinguisher. On top of that, I got slapped (no uncommon in my country at the time) around and spent days grounded. The jerk of a building manager was friends with the parents of one of the accusers.
I was pissed off considering that we were all "friends" and I used to stay home alone during the afternoons, I took the spare remote for the electronic gate which closed horizontally and could be operated from my window. At the time, this was the only gate in the condominium/building that residents opened themselves with a remote. That was when I got my revenge on each one of them. I spent three weeks watching for hours, waiting for the parents of those friends to arrive in their expensive cars (expensive by the neighborhood standards). I triggered the gate to close while they were passing through and damaged them one by one, including two cars from a single family.
A huge conflict started between the condo association and the residents. Some sued the building to pay for the repairs while others paid out of pocket. One of the kids even lost his PlayStation 3 for Christmas because his dad had to pay the insurance deductible. The building manager lost the election three months later because this mess was the hot topic, even though he installed sensors right before the elections. During the chaos, residents discovered that the manager was stealing money with fake invoices through a tool shop owned by the parents of one of those friends. They ended up facing criminal charges.
They thought they could pin the blame and the bill on me. In the end, I just orchestrated a little mechanical karma. It was a chain reaction that took down the bullies, the corrupt manager, and their expensive cars.
Additional information:
- The gate was on a very steep ramp, so it was hard for the drivers to get enough torque and agility to move the car out of the way in time (considering that cars in my country and social class aren't very powerful). I used to crack up at their reactions.
- Medium class cars in Brazil are european sized cars and aren't that powerful especially in a ramp.
- at the time there was no sensor in the gate or any kinda of operation history tracker
- anything car related in Brazil usually cost twice as much in dollars than in other countries due to taxes (I am not even accounting for local purchase power that is much lower), so the financial impact was big
This story happened in Brazil so please account for the cultural differences.
