most people i’ve seen choose the four corners farm so that they can access a quarry and whatnot. maybe watch a playthrough w that challenge to get some ideas?
Hi, I started a save where I never leave the farm because of a post I saw on here. One question… how do you do it? There’s really nothing to do on the save. I’ve made it to the end of summer and the only reason I’ve had seeds this season is because of the green rain. Should I just quit this save and try another challenge?

Lots of being done with things to do by 9 am.
What parameters are you doing for the challenge? I think normally the goal is to reach level 10 in all skills without leaving the farm, but you'll need to have monster spawns on when you started the farm. Personally I would allow getting the basic fishing pole from willy so as not to die of boredom Still i think it would be a very boring grind as you're finding which is why I never tried it
How do you do fishing?
The four corners farm is necessary IMO. Where the weeds grow in the top right, there is a certain type that is guaranteed to give seeds. I only ever cleared those and left the rest because the more weeds you have, the more are going to be the type that guarantee seeds. Clear the wood and stones so you have more room for weeds. Leave/grow as many trees as possible in the bottom left. They have a chance to become mushroom trees in the fall, and you can tap them for mushrooms. Once you have one mushroom tree, make sure you dig up any seeds they drop so that you can distribute them advantageously. Make preserves jars, bee houses, and kegs as soon as you are able, it’s an easy way to get a little more cash out of your goods. Make sure you choose artisan as you level up farming. Coal is a big hang up, don’t be afraid to harvest wood and use a charcoal kiln to get more coal for preserves jars and bee houses. I had an organized area in the farm for my trees to tap for syrup/resin/tar. Don’t be afraid to sleep if there’s nothing to do. Lots of 8 am bedtimes when you’re doing this! My personal goal was 1 million and I made it by the end of year 5 (probably could have been mid-year but I hoarded and sold a huge chunk at once and ended up at 1.2 million)
I started this “challenge” but quickly changed a couple things. 1) Get the fishing pole. You’ll quickly fish up an ancient seed, but how do you turn it in to get the actual seeds? 2) Leave the farm once a season on the last day. You can turn stuff into the museum. You can leave a tool to upgrade (but can’t get it back for a month). This prevents you from buy seeds for the season (but you could be fruit trees if you want). This obviously is different from NEVER leaving, but it made the challenge go from really dull to actually kind of fun but still in the “spirit”. At the end of the day, it’s a self-imposed challenge, do what’s fun for you.
Yeah that seems like a good comprise to make the challenge more fun.
If you mod, the mail services mod is really helpful as well.
I just finished this challenge last week. Four Corners, Monsters spawn at night turned on (can use scythe for 1 damage without having a sword.) Goal was to make 1 million by truly never leaving the farm. Finished the challenge before Fall of year 5. The first couple years I was literally selling stacks of logs. Kept planting trees when I got seeds in the 3 corners without the house. I kept the main corner for farming any wild seeds I got. Started a tree farm in that corner to get sap as well. Put mushroom logs in between the trees once they were grown. Picked fruit cave when I unlocked that. Made preserve jars, bee hives, and kegs as soon as I was able. Between the mushroom logs and fruit cave, you can get everything you need to make Fall Seeds. So Fall I went crazy planting as many of those as I could. I was only able to make simple sprinklers from ores I got in the quarry, but that helped a lot. Spend the rest of the year processing those in kegs and jars. Pickled purple mushrooms ended up being my main source of income after that set up was established. The top left and bottom right corners got turned into mushroom forests that I periodically thinned out, but mostly left alone. A stack of basic red mushrooms sells for over 75k. So that was also really good for this challenge. The bottom left corner I kept for regular trees to make coal or for other crafting needs. It took awhile, but I was eventually able to grind enough slimes at night with my scythe to make an oil maker, since I had a crap ton of sunflowers. But that ended up not really being worth it. Was a fun side challenge though. I chose a dog as my pet because they can give you hardwood, and choose forester so cutting down regular trees also had a chance of dropping hardwood. Overall, I had fun with this challenge. It was so different from my normal play style. And it was interesting figuring out what I could and could not do to make a reasonable amount of money so that this challenge didn’t take 20yrs. It is a grindy challenge early on. I was regularly going back to bed by 9-11am because I was done with my daily tasks, or out of energy. Which helped fly through the seasons. I also didn’t have this as my only save I was playing on. I think I would have gone crazy if this was my only farm. If I got on to play my main save, I would play through a few days on this save first to keep progressing. Hope this helps :)
I do plan on keeping this challenge save, and continuing with it to see what you can truly do without leaving the farm. I will make one exception though since I have completed the “1 million without leaving the farm challenge.” I will allow myself to leave once to get the basic fishing pole now since you can fish in the pond in the bottom left corner. My next challenge is level 10 in all skills.
I did 4 corners farm and became a tree farmer. Basically chopped down and planted trees until I got to level 10 in foraging and was able to get hardwood from tree chopping. Then I became a mushroom farmer. I still used the one corner that produced seeds for farming and the quarry for stone and ore. It did get very monotonous and became much easier with the mushroom logs, I had done it before they were introduced as well and that took me twice as long to achieve my goal.
I quit the never leave the farm challenge in just a few days. I hated it. I’m currently doing a zero XP earned perfection save. It is extremely challenging but I’m really enjoying it. It takes a lot of planning and research to get things right. It only takes 100 points to get one XP so you have to use them wisely. 1 Fishing XP is an automatic gift from Willy at the end of Spring even if you don’t catch a single fish. I’m not counting that as I didn’t actually earn that XP.
