Lmao even in 2015 it was a waste of time and i didnt bither
Tbf back then it was slightly more annoying because of the random corrupt blocks breaking altars would spread
It’s not 2015 anymore. You don’t have to do everything in your power to stop the Hallow and Crimson/Corruption from taking over your world. Make hellevators to protect your base, sure, but that’s literally all you need to do. Besides, you can’t stop the V. The V is inevitable.
In the early stages of Hardmode, you WANT the evil biomes to take over parts of your world because you’ll need souls and a whole lot of other stuff. Besides, you can get a Clentaminator after defeating a single mech boss.
I’m posting this because I constantly see players spending hours upon hours in pre-Hardmode preparing for the biome spread. It’s not worth it.

Isolating the evils is just a good mindless task to have when my friends are offline.
Still, I wish there were easier ways to contain it other than spending hours digging tunnels. Post moonlord you should be able to get rid of all evil whenever you want easily
I just used a fuckton of dynamite, took like 20 min
I don't even protect my base. If the corruption is too close after WoF, I just go grab some hallowed blocks and disperse them under my base. The hallow spreads, then blocks the corruption, and it's effortless compared to other methods
I like sunflowers. Endless fields of sunflowers. You can be surrounded by corruption or crimson and not care
Never in my life have I cared tbh plus the hallow is sick as hell
I've played since day 1 and I've never once done any prep against the evils. All I do is make my base Hallow, and that's the only thing that ever needs to be done
"The V is inevitable" Intimidating but true
Me after releasing myself from my earthly bonds (realising that journey mode isn’t cheating and I can finally play on ultra hard difficulty without having to worry about corruption spread)
Omg, that rainbow design is incredible. I might steal this.
You absolutely can stop the V
You mean you can cleanse the V after it already happened. You cannot stop it from showing up in the first place provided you actually want to beat Moon Lord.
I actually enjoy cutting out a buffer zone around the evil biomes before the WoF. You end up finding so much stuff and end up with all the dirt and stone you need to build whatever you want
It's fun though
Making elevators to protect your base itself feels like a high effort time consuming task lol
It depends on what your end goal is. If you're building a town, i think its better to mitigate the spread. In any other instance it doesn't really matter much.
I still make hellavators around my world, but that's for easy access to the underground, and Digtoise can do it for me anyway. Aside from shimmer territory of course To protect my bases, I plant Hallow around them. Quick, simple and easy
Only thing I would recommend is watch your beaches. Letting it corrupt outside the world border sucks, but you have to be really slow to let it get that bad without intervention
Maybe plan where you kill WoF?
Seriously, I have sooooo much time in terraria. Been playing for well over a decade, on every single platform. I have never, not ever found biome spread to be a meaningful problem. Community got new players spending 6 hours digging multiple 4 block wide gaps everywhere Jesus check lol.
I needed to hear this, ty
It's crazy how many posts I see of people worrying about biome spread while it's pretty much irrelevant to a playthrough I think it's caused by so many people watching tons of guides instead of actually playing the game so they end up stumbling upon a biome spread guide that makes them think it's an important part of the game
I find it oddly satisfying
To maximize your clentaminating economy, do Pirate Invasion when you get to Hardmode for the Discount Card/Greedy Ring. Move Steampunker into a Desert pylon house with Painter/Princess. Swap them out for Cyborg later when available. Fish for Double Cod in Jungle Surface for Ammo Reservation potions. Buy Ammo Box from Arms Dealer. Craft Adamantite Ranger armor set. Switch to Crystal Ninja shirt and Chlorophyte Helmet when available. Switch to Red Riding or Shroomite shirt when available. Switch to Vortex shirt when available. Toss Clentaminator in the shimmer after you beat the game. Save lots of money. Hopefully your Goblin Tinkerer is in an underground ice biome house with the Mechanic or all that money you saved will disappear anyways.
Right before fighting the WoF I always hop on an old character with a drill containment unit and dig out a huge trench under my starting base to turn it into one or more floating islands. The area underneath can get corrupted and it doesn't matter.
Yeah The evil/hallow spread is so slow that it's never a real problem. Take your sweet time, Terrarians!
I just live in the sky.
I do wish the biome spread was a significant threat. Before Otherworld was cancelled, having to actively combat the corruption was an idea that excited me
people acknowledge the spread???
On your first playthrough when you’re still new to the game, biome spread can sound pretty scary so it’s understandable. Not saying all people will find it scary, but still.
Seriously. I dont ever worry about biome spread until after I have the Shroomite digging claws. At that point, I dig so fast and have so much Armour that I can dig out a dividing hole in like 3 minutes
Lmao I remember the first time I played this game, did everything in my power to stop biome spread as it sounded scary. Nowadays I legit could not give less of a shit that I basically ignore it.
By post golem, the world is your bitch anyways
yeh but crimson consuming the jungle is a pain in the fucking ass
Honestly, since they added that mud blocks can become infected instead of turning into dirt I've stopped stressing about it. The only time I did take on the task of creating hellevators was when I was playing in the getfixedboi seed since there it is impossible to clean the world once infected, plus the V does not exist which makes it easier to isolate the biomes
nice of reddit to recommend me right as i'm getting back up from beating the wall in my latest run and getting the crimson in literally the worst place it could've spawned in, not only close as hell to my base but right over the very desert i built this epic ass dinosaur skeleton town at forcing me to evacuate everyone to a hallow desert
I just grew into doing vertical digs in biomes frontiers and horizontal digs in layer frontiers (1 or 2 more in the caverns since it's so large). I don't mind keeping the habit for pre-hardmode. It's decent buffering that also helps pick up on where to purify once the V happens.
Yeah, overthinking and overpreparing was just sapping fun from the game. Only thing i protect now is the oceans. No jungle farm, no mob farm, no thousands of chests with everything. Minimum arenas.
