UX is more important than UI here. Emptiness can be a very good thing actually. However, the app currently isn’t very intuitive. What is expected of me? How is this going to make me more productive? What is that icon and why is it so big? What are those empty boxes to the side? Also, I don’t see much value to be honest. What is your app solving that an empty analog notepad (or the software notepad that comes with every OS) cannot? How is this competing with all other productivity related apps out there? Make a strong business case first. Create value. Find uniqueness. UI design can come later.
