Hey mods - is it possible to get a megathread for the countless posts regarding the “straight women against bisexual men” biphobic discourse making its rounds on social media?
I’m a bisexual man and the countless recent posts on this sub (a sub that I love and I’m happy to be a part of) are tough to see, it’s genuinely disheartening. It’s great to see people rallying around each other and showing support but it’s been too much. The posts are also drowning out other valuable contributions on the sub.
I agree. It feels like a targeted barrage to sow distrust and promote othering
I think there are just so many of them that we’ve tipped past “supportive and productive discussion” to being inundated with repetition. I love that people come to this sub to vent and find likeminded people but seeing it so much is honestly making me feel like shit; I avoid TikTok and other platforms because of the toxicity, I don’t want to be reminded of it constantly here.
I am so tired of seeing the posts on the topic. Posters are well past the point of vapid shallow karma farming over this tiktok "discourse" as in rage bait.
Is TikTok slop really considered ‘discourse?’
I don’t care what it’s called, it’s just flooding into this sub way too much.
I mean i dont have tiktok at all but i can still say ive experienced most of the things that are a part of the discourse irl. I came to the same conclusions before this discourse but it is nice in some ways to see its not just me who has experienced it at this scale. Especially with how often it is downplayed as only a minority that have these biphobic opinions... because in reality it is above 70%.

Should all biphobia/homophobia posts go into a megathread, or just the ones that annoy you?
We are aware of this issue and have been brainstorming ideas to filter these posts without anyone feeling like they aren't being heard. Our current discussed plan is to add a blanket sticky statement to these posts and change their flair to "bigotry" so users know to scroll on by that content. The statement that will appear on these posts will read more or less as follows: First, we the mods don't want to pick on this post in particular! There's nothing wrong with this post. But there's a larger pattern we want to talk about. We see so many posts, often several a day, that start out, "People on TikTok have terrible takes." Yes, TikTok is full of all kinds of biphobic takes. But it's also full of bad takes about every other letter of the LGBTQ+ community, and every other minority you could name. TikTok is a highly optimized algorithmic machine, designed to maximize engagement. And what's the most effective way to maximize engagement? Rage bait. The other social media sites figured this out long ago, but TikTok perfected it. TikTok will happily find every last scrap of bigotry in the world and add it to your feed. And the people that run TikTok are allies of the current US administration, including the billionaire Larry Ellison, who has been on a media buying spree. Almost none of these people are friends of the LGBTQ+ community, and they have political agendas. So if anyone is feeling overwhelmed by bad takes on TikTok, you're allowed to walk away. You're allowed to make time for hope and joy. Yes, some people out there will continue to have bad takes, both on TikTok and in real life. And yes, the issues raised by this post are absolutely real. But please take care of yourself out there, and don't allow the algorithms to feed you an endless stream of all the biphobia in the world. As the "bad TikTok takes" continue to fill up /new, the mods may start re-categorizing them as "Bigotry". This label exists so that people can discuss biphobia. But it also allows readers a way to filter them out or skip over them. It's absolutely OK to discuss biphobia here (obviously). But the social media stuff is just endless. And people sometimes need a break from the algorithm

I agree that’s it got a bit much. While it’s valid to discuss our own experiences of bigotry and seek support from this community, let’s save posts about it to when it personally affects us rather than every time we see a shitty take on social media. We know the straights are often not OK, we don’t need to constantly have it amplified here.
I agree. I don’t want to take away anyone’s opportunity to share, this particular topic at this particular time is just overwhelming right now.
