This is honestly such an easy lay up for Microsoft. There will be a growing call for physical media over time, especially as the notion of “we own nothing, everything we have is being borrowed/rented” becomes more apparent to wider society. If Microsoft understands this and doesn’t go in the direction that many of companies are going, they will earn a whole lot of good faith that they desperately need.
No one will sell physical games for it once Sony stops producing it.
Xbox, who sells digital-only systems, has been trying to push game streaming for years, has been trying very hard to push GamePass, has no disc manufacturing facilities (Sony pressed their Blu-ray discs) and who released several first party games recently without physical copies and only codes-in-boxes, is unlikely to become the champion of physical media.
