I’m not a technology guy, I need an app to introduce to my company owner, that works on multiple platforms and not easily hacked

Like I said I don’t understand how it works, but looking for a way to have tablets throughout the factory to record data, different departments, supplies and warehouse stock, customer orders and specs for orders, shipping and receiving data and photos. Basically one place that management and sales can go and see the A-Z product and process to make pricing and production easier. I want to provide an option of how to go about starting this process with my company asap. I don’t own the company, but I’m in management and can see how this would significantly improve EVERYTHING, as we are still working in the Stone Age. Please and thank you for any help guiding me in the right direction.

I don't understand what you're asking. You want to learn how to make this? It sounds like it's pretty advanced.. if you don't know how to program, you're looking at years of time. It might be more practical to pay a development firm to make it for you.

  I realize that it will take too long for me. I am looking for a solution to put in front of the owner and say we can do this for approximately $X and this is how we go about getting the ball rolling.

Been there. Most factories run exactly like this until it breaks. What you're describing is basically a lightweight internal ops app: tablets for data entry, one shared dashboard for management/sales, role-based logins so people only see their department (that alone covers most of your security concern). Pitch it to your owner as a small pilot, not a full overhaul. One department, 30 days, show the time saved and errors avoided, then expand. Way easier yes than "let's rebuild everything." I actually build tools like this for manufacturing ops, tablet entry and dashboards. Happy to help you think through the pilot scope if useful.

  I don’t know what his budget would be, we are a small but growing company. To the point we need this to stay in business. I just don’t know anything about how to start the process or provide information on how beneficial it would be. I have made a list of what I would want but I’m sure it would have to be fine tuned

My god. You do not need to make your own tools. MS business dynamics, cin7, odoo, will all do this. You’re looking at a several million dollar build. May as well make your own ERP company out of that, and it will probably suck because you do not know how software is made and will have unrealistic expectations.

If you can't find an existing solution, it will take at least months and a boatload of money to have a solution made. Making an app takes time, and debugging it takes even more time.

Solutions already exist for something like this, this is the wrong sub to ask. Ask in more industrial subreddits and you will get accurate answers on how things are done.

You're looking for an ERP system (Enterprise Resource Planning). You probably want an ERP with MES capabilities too (MES = Manufacturing Execution System). Search "Microsoft Dynamics 365" on YouTube and queue up a couple videos. If this still looks like roughly the kind of thing you're looking for then you're on the right track. There are cheaper as well as more expensive options in this space, but Dynamics is what I usually hear is the sweet spot for mid-size enterprises.

If you have a single location, you can run everything on a local wifi that doesn't touch the web. Still not perfect, but reasonable place to start. what specifically are the functions of the program? It sounds like you might have everything living on paper or in some guy/gal's head, or series of spread sheets, and want to move that to a single point of truth/resource. Some combination of local Wiki for process information, and data base for inventory and pricing stuff might be what you need. physically this looks like a combination of a bunch of physical tech stuff ( tablet + local wifi + internal server (assuming a smaller company could be almost any old laptop or desktop) ) + bunch of digital tech stuff (database setup, wiki setup) + knowlege work (putting your processes into it) + data entry (feeding in your current inventories / orders) what I would honestly recommend is if you have a tech college in your area, approach them about making it a student project / many student projects, Now is probably a great time to talk to them. Those projects will most likely NOT FIX your problem and that is not the point of them. The point is to see a draft/Minimum viable project and interact with it to understand what is actually needed for the system to succeed. It would have lower costs for you, provide both of you with some real world experience in the development process, and refine what you want into what you need.
