Dak's a seasoned vet who's probably past his prime at this point. He's got a substantial injury history and is in his mid-30s. He's not gonna get any better. He's gonna stay as good as he is right now for a few more years, then he will decline. It's now or never for the Cowboys.

It all comes back to team building and contracts. Outside of the early really long term contracts with the linemen they lack creativity in how they negotiate, not to mention capitulating and losing at contract chicken so that the next guy knows to play hardball. Then as far as team building they’ve essentially been trying to replicate the 96 Cowboys since then. Notice the they emphasized. They pay the quarterback, receiver tight end and running back and then spend a bunch of capital on offensive linemen. Then on defense they just want pass rushers and play making corners. They never prioritize defensive tackle or linebacker or safety because there aren’t any stars at those positions in 96 besides Woodson who’s still our best safety since he retired in 03. The reason why we always fall just short is that our GM refuses to win anyway that isn’t his vision and it sucks the players get blamed for it
