Gday guys, Ive been planning out a surf trip to Sri Lanka, specifically Arugam bay (watched animal garden from Thomas surfboards and finished it deadset on going there). The thing that made it most appealing was the longboard waves, I ride pretty much just logs and my twin fish, all the chest high right hand points I saw in the videos are my dream waves and it just seems perfect for what I like.
However, after reading a bunch of Arugam bay posts on here Im second guessing going to Arugam. Im hearing mostly negatives, still keen because I think im an intermediate to advanced surfer and am used to surfing busy spots in Sydney, still get myself plenty of waves. Is there anyone who would encourage a trip to try it for a week? If not, is there any other spots relatively close to Australia that anyone would recommend with a similar climate and waves but maybe less of the problems ive read about? Thanks in advance for any feedback
Heard the same stuff before my trip but went anyway and loved it, the points are unreal on a log. One week is short but you'll score if you're used to dealing with crowds

Too crowded and the locals are the wirst I’ve ever encountered. I was there in 2006 too so it has to be worse now. Go to West Java.
