what is your best source to find a good example sentences

Is there a good app or website to find example sentences? I've tried using a dictionary in 懂Chinese to find example sentences for a vocabulary. but sometimes the search feature is so slow that I have to refresh the page. Some vocabulary words don't have example sentences. I've also used Youglish to find example sentences, but most of the sentences are from TED talks, so I find it a bit difficult to understand because of the lack of visual elements.

I find AI-generated sentences to be the best nowadays; they're almost always natural and use the most common collocations. I'm yet to find a database that's not peppered with bugs, obscure proper nouns, unusual phrasings, translationese, etc. (YouDao, Jukuu, Zaojv), although the example sentences in Pleco are usually okay, though.

If you're advanced enough, you can also search Google with the word/snippet in quotation marks, then add e.g. `site:.cn` or `site:.tw` and you can get example sentences that way. And there are example sentences in Chinese-Chinese dictionaries, but they're usually somewhat advanced.

Yes, I agree with Becky. Now I would just give the word to ChatGPT and ask it to put it in a sentence. Even asking it to use the vocabulary in a conversation. And it works better with multiple words in this case.

For the visual context you are missing in TED clips, I would use native video search rather than another sentence database: search the word plus a common collocate on YouTube or Bilibili, then save one short clip and one sentence you can actually understand. That gives you prosody and a scene, while a dictionary example can still handle the quick definition.

If you are after sentences to practice naturally spoken Chinese, I would try Qwen first and Deepseek second. They are like chatGPT but trained on Chinese data. The output is flawless and both are free for that kind of use. You can interact with them in English or Chinese. And if you are at a level at which you need grammar rule explanations in English, I would ask chatGPT. It does the job really well now.

listen to YouTube videos you like and can cope with. download the subtitles with downsub. look for the sentences you found useful
