In moderation it's no worse than table salt. And no, it doesn't trigger migraines.
is it bad for you? could it trigger migraines too?
In moderation it's no worse than table salt. And no, it doesn't trigger migraines.
No. MSG is naturally occurring in human bodies. The migraine myths were disproven long ago. You could simply research this…but clearly you can’t be bothered. You won’t bother to read this article either, I’m relatively certain.
Glutamate occurs naturally in the human body and foods. MSG is manufactured sodium glutamate, which becomes sodium and glutamate when consumed. So if you’re going to be pissy about someone asking a question maybe have your own facts straight first.
No. I've heard it's a misconception that people stated believing. They would eat enough Chinese food to feed a family and be like "hmm...I don't feel good...must be the MSG". Also, when MSG was in non-chinese food they wouldn't notice any effect.
Chinese food is often loaded with sodium, so the salt probably contributes to not feeling well too.
It's no worse for you than the kind of food that tends to have msg in it.
try using the internet to figure that out
Msg is amino acid that naturally occurs in meats mushrooms tomatoes and other common foods. Basically salt and glutamate hitched together. Its a food enhancement same as salt is. So like salt if you consume it in massive amounts it has the same dehydration effect. So no on its own its not bad for you. It just got a bad rap in the 90s from the racism wave against chinese immigrants at the time.
Your post has been removed for Rule 1, not about cooking.
No It's 12% sodium by weight, whereas regular table salt/sea salt are usually around 45% sodium by weight. Too much sodium can be bad for some people (eg people with hypertension), but even then, msg is less of a problem than salt is. The rest of MSG is glutamate, which is a naturally occurring amino acid found in many foods. There's no good evidence that MSG has any negative effects on your health. The fearmongering around it is rooted in racist attitudes towards Chinese populations many decades ago, I wanna say the 60s. All the "evidence" that it's bad for you comes in the form of like "it's processed chemicals" or anecdotes like "I get headaches when I eat msg"
