BTW everything about this joke is true, I did have a cat who lived to 22, and we owe it in part to the care that we took and the information that we had. I'd say we did a pretty good job of it.

People have often asked me how he was able to live such a long life. I said, you do your research. You learn about the things that keep a cat healthy and happy. You buy premium cat food. You ensure everything he'll ever need is inside. And as they get older, you take them for regular checkups, just to ensure that they're doing well.
But with all of that said, a long life is never guaranteed. You can do everything right, and your cat can still develop health problems, and can still die young. You will never know if your cat will live to such a profound age until that day comes.
