2024 Hyundai Palisades. Customer states that car pulls and steering is off ever since their kid drove car and ran over a curb. Eventually found that rear control arm that adjusts toe is bent and needed to be replaced. Customer declined repairs and drove away.

I always drove my parent's vehicles. I couldn't afford my own car in 11th grade. I drove through over half of 11th grade and all of 12th. But I also did all of the maintenance, I wasn't nearly as entitled as some other assholes were.
This is why my first car was an 86 Subaru GL Wagon. I could fuck it up and repairs would cost $100.

Surprising this might be the first time on this sub where I saw someone decline a minor repair for literally the exact issue they took it to the shop for in the first place.

Kind of depends on the circumstances. I often get my cars aligned at firestone. They’re around the corner, can get me in same day, and will let me know of anything resisting spec or wearing substantially that I can’t visually verify. I’ve then saved a diag and can do the work at home or get in with a proper shop. Maybe in this case they left to go involve the guilty party.
I see this a lot tbh. People will bring their car, which is still under warranty, to an Indy mechanic because they think it’s a cheap fix and they don’t want to wait ages for their car from the notoriously slow dealership repair center. Then they learn it’s not a cheap fix and decide to go through their warranty.

Oil change, major imminent issue, mild concern turning into anger as soon as I state the price, my warning about her safety followed by a passive aggressive crash out from me because I know she isn’t going to buy anything or even listen to me, the follow up call when she has to face the consequences of her own inaction, it’s like clockwork.
They declined because they deemed it pointless to repair a car that's guaranteed to blow up its engine before 80k.
When I was still a Toyota dealer tech I had a customer bring her 2 year old Corolla in because the clutch was slipping. It has 20k miles and the clutch was burnt tf out. Apparently she went on holidays and her son used the car while she was gone.
I refuse to let my teens drive my car solo. I taught them to drive on my car also allow them to drive with me in the car.
