Hi everyone
I'm contemplating buying a PC, as I really want to play Minecraft with nice shaders and a few mods. Is the switch from PS5 to PC worth it? And how expensive a computer do I need to build to run nice shaders?
I would say yes but that's because I like java over bedrock. On shaders is an annoying problem cuz something like reshaded can run easily on integrated graphics but for stuff like bsl and complementary you need a mid range to high end pc depending on the settings and shaders

Java is the best version of Minecraft but it's hard to recommend building / buying a PC (especially with current prices) for a single game. If there are other reasons you want a PC, I would say go for it, but it probably doesn't make sense to make this decision for Minecraft alone. The best hardware is what you already own.
For just minecraft with shader you can just buy a 200 dollar pc with decent specs (make it yourself) that would be the better choice if you already have a bunch of ps5 games or you can save up more and buy a really good pc which will probably bw cheaper than a ps5 in the long term since games are way cheaper
as someone who swapped from console to pc, i did find it worth it personally :) the game lags and stutters significantly less (with mods; i personally use Fabric, which is a loader), and while it may not have the marketplace, it has a ton of free stuff to download for it if you just look around (like adventure maps, skins, etc.). the only thing i missed was my controller made the swap, but i play MC on my deck now, so it's much better for me. my actual pc is fairly potato, and also requires Fabric to be able to actually run without issue; i believe my deck *could* run MC without Fabric, but it optimises the game since the game is fairly *un*optimised, and i've gotten used to having it run smoother with the loader. that being said, i don't use shaders. i have no clue if Fabric would help keep the strain on your PC low if you *did* want to use shaders, but i *do* know that you can definitely at least optimise the game for your PC even if it's a lower end one, and the game would run fairly normally :)
If you can find a cheap build used on the many marketplaces out there that would be your best bet because you can just use the recommended settings list and add maybe 20% like a 30 series card and at least a ryzen 3000 to 5000 chip and ar least 16 gbs of ram/32 if you can for under 1500 to 2000 dollars with decent amounts of storage
Just check the recommended specs and try to get something as close to that as possible. Minimum requirements will run it but it will likely have poor performance.
I started on a $1000 refurbished prebuilt from Newegg. Had an i7-13700F, 4060 Ti 8GB, and 16GB of DDR5. Now, I've spent more than I paid for the original PC to upgrade my GPU to a 5080, and my PSU to something that can output the power needed, and I can run some gorgeous, cranked up IterationRP settings at 1080p. Factor in how much more expensive stuff is... be ready to spend $1.5-2.5K if you want Minecraft to look like real life, or close. I was able to run decently nice shaders (like Complementary, BSL, and the like) on my PC before I upgraded it, with pretty high render distances, at 60FPS and above, but once I discovered the Rethinking Voxels shader, that 4060 Ti wasn't enough anymore. So the question you have to ask yourself basically is: Do you want nice visuals, real-time shadows, decent reflections, and prettier lights? Or do you want all that, plus realistic, ray or path traced block lights, global illumination, realistic, mirror-like reflections, the works? The former at 1080p: your budget for just the PC should be $800-$1200. GPUs like the RTX 3070, 4060 (try to get a 16GB model), 5060 / 5060 Ti, 9060 XT, 9070 should be enough. The latter at 1080p: you'll need more like $1500-$1700. Shoot for at least an RTX 3080, 4070 Ti, 5070, or RX 9070 XT. The former at 1440p: $1000-$1400. The 3070 Ti, 4060 Ti, or 9060 XT should do what you need them to. The latter at 1440p: $1700-1900. You'll be looking for a 3090 if they're not stupid expensive for their VRAM, 4070 Ti Super (maybe 4080 TBH), 5070 Ti, or 9070 XT. The former at 4K: probably $1500 minimum. You'll need a pretty beefy GPU at this point. Look for a 5070 (though if you're playing at 4K you want more VRAM than a 5070 has, and probably more graphics processing power, too), 5070 Ti, or 9070 XT. The latter at 4K: this'll be tough. I max out the only GPU that's still somewhat feasible to buy right now at 1080p, but I also crank my settings up pretty high, so maybe you could still use a 5080 at lower settings than I do. I'd recommend a 4080, 4080 Super, 5080, or 5070 Ti if you're willing to learn how to overclock. The 9070 XT might fall a touch behind, but I have seen mention of it being on par with the 5070 Ti, so maybe don't rule it out completely. The 4090 and 5090 are very expensive for their processing power and VRAM, so I won't even mention them (unless you're made of money and can afford a $3-5K GPU for a game). You'll want to be ready to spend $2000-$2500 or more. Also, it's my opinion that the best version to run shaders on is 1.21.10. Atlas padding was added to the game in 1.21.11, which absolutely gobbles VRAM for no visible good reason. Also, in that same version, something about rendering was changed and grass ends up looking really shadowy and horrible, whereas 1.21.10 is the latesy version that doesn't have any of these problems.
Hi, i did this 1 year ago because of Minecraft RTX. I play Minecraft now only on my PC and pretty much everything else on PS5 for convenience. I think it was worth it.
