Potty training regression and sudden increase in dramatic tantrums have me feeling really defeated.

I just need to be really raw for a second.

My daughter is 25 months. She has been showing signs of being ready for potty training for a while now. Two weeks ago she asked to use the potty and within a day or two, she peed for the first time, and for the rest of that whole first week she was doing stellar. Learning to tell us when she had to go (though usually while actively going but still), peeing in the potty like ten times a day, increasing stretches of dry undies, and even successfully peeing in public bathrooms! I thought we had it made.

Then in the second week of potty training (last week), she got sick midweek and with it came a sudden major disdain for anything to do with the potty. The day before she got sick, daycare had put her in undies for the day and she had two accidents while there. I had told them that day she might be ready for undies at daycare soon, but did not suggest to do it that day. That night she had an accident and was so upset about it. We have never made a big deal of her accidents. Then next day she gets a high fever at daycare and is sent home.

I tried to lay off the potty training while she was sick. Knowing myself, I probably could have laid off a little more, but I didn’t force it if she really wasn’t about it. Thursday she peed and pooped in the potty. Cool 👍 she has fully recovered from her sickness, but the disdain for the potty remains mostly. She did pee in the potty this morning but honestly its become a chore to get her to use the potty. She never wants to anymore, its only when I insist (and she isn’t vehemently against it) that she will concede and most times now she just sits, nothing else happens. Its draining.

Secondly, ever since she got sick she has had these horrible tantrums. Everything is setting her off. Her shoe comes off - crisis. Wants to be held while I am doing something so I cant - crisis. Mom needs to use the potty (not asking her to use it) - crisis. She drops her milk (in a nonspillable bottle) - crisis.

Its starting to affect me too I think. I am very irritable the past few days. I am sure we are feeding off each other. But anyway, I am just feeling like a moody incompetent mother and wife these days.
