That’s what happened to me. It was just too much. And I hate the system they tied the summons to.
That’s what happened to me. It was just too much. And I hate the system they tied the summons to.
Or they stopped because the main story was terrible.
For me it was both.
Isn't it the same story as ff7?
I haven’t finished it… yet. I am trying. I will but damn. Gongaga damn near broke me.
Yeah that’s pretty much the universal break point.
That’s where I started just sprinting through the story, honestly.
I spent way too long trying to navigate that damn map on that level. Ended up following a youtube video just to locate cid. Thankfully the subsequent maps were much better.
Those remakes are really overrated I struggled so much through the first one
I don't know if you ended up completing rebirth, but I personally enjoyed it much more than remake. It actually felt better paced, and even when it drags, it at least didn't feel like it was insulting my time like much of remake did.
looool this thread is full of babies. There’s HARDLY too many side quests in ff7. I also play to enjoy a game and not get every single achievement like a weirdo
People have different goals/motivations when gaming. You can play how you want just like I can play how I want.
I didnt even finish all the side quests. I did a couple and moved on to the main storyline. It's not that hard. It seems like for some of these people they HAVE to do it and it broke them
Yes but all open world games are like this for me so no big deal.
Except these arent really optional
False statement but ok
Even Rdr2 open world ?
🙋♂️ Oh yeah.
My first refund in 10+ years. Hated the open world and story changes.
I stepped away when the story ground to a halt at the beach with materia powered SegWay scooters.
Literally got to this part last night and turned the game off to take a break.
Yep that’s where it got me too.
Exactly where I stopped too
But that was one of the better parts of the game.
For me it was the Jungle, I just powered through after that and skipped most of the side stuff. I did enjoy what was there but it was just too much and I really wanted to see the story.
Ah, that's where the true game begins, though: MiniGame, the game. You get to grind through dozens of hours of all the most tedious, awful mini games and side quests ever compiled in one game or face the consequence of getting literally zero decent items or summons. It was pure nostalgia for the original game that helped me force my way through that game, but it was never really fun at any point.
I stepped away 5 min into the demo when one of my favorite 90s games played like shit and I didn’t enjoy anything about it. Sad.
I actually kind of enjoyed that chapter. It was a comical respite from the central narrative, and climaxes with the gleefully ridiculous battle against Hojo's monster robot thing on the beach. It all felt like an extended anime episode. There are chapters that drag on way too long in that game though.
Currently at Cosmo canyon and can't bring myself to keep going even though I want to see the story
Same here. The story and pacing was doing so well, and the the beach happened. It instantly killed my motivation to play it, and I ended up dropping the game for about four months.
I enjoyed the game
I finished it about two nights ago after spending about a month on it. Played remake at release but only just got round to rebirth. On the whole, I enjoyed rebirth a lot more than remake. Though there was a lot of slogging involved.
It wasn't the side quests that tiring... It was those freaking dumb towers imo
Love the open world. Love all the OPTIONAL side quests Absolutely abhor what is done with the story- the whispers and all that- it’s the first FF game I’m not playing for the story. Absolutely love the combat system; my favorite of any game. It’s solely why I replayed it 3x.
Sounds like I should wait for the remake version without the bloat.
Remake kind of makes the bloat part of the central story. So you can't really ignore it. Rebirth has bloat, but most of it is firmly on the optional side. They're both well worth playing.
If you don’t have that many different groups of people, mini dungeons or emergent interactive gameplay, you shall not make an open world game.
Rebirth has one of the biggest enemy bestiary's in modern gaming. There's around 230 enemy types (including bosses).
I absolutely tired myself out on side quests more than a few times because its so easy to just do everything. I spent about 10 hours in the Grasslands and am up to 28 hours entering Costa Del Sol on my Switch 2 playthrough.
I typically try to platinum a FF game, but this one was overwhelming and I kinda gave up
NO SHIT
That’s me. I couldn’t finish the game because it felt like a never ending side quest.
People keep saying you don't have to do the side quests but if I have to 100% a game and it requires me to do everything in it, then at least it should be a fun challenge. Not feel like a bloody chore. And then locking away key boss fights or features behind these ass side quests is also annoying. Like I want to do that one boss battle but can't because I have to complete all these other side quests first in order to unlock that part of the story I want to see. That's not good game design in my opinion. It's just tiring and exhausting. Remake was fun to play. Rebirth was tiring. I hope Revelation finds a nice balance.
but if I have to 100% a game
There is your problem right there. You dont have to 100% the game. You choose to.
Those weren’t QUESTS. They were icons on a map that led to mini games. Someone make Square Enix play The Witcher 3 so they can understand what a side quest is.
Funny because witcher 3 side quests from a gameplay point of view suck and are mostly all the same thing. Go to a spot->follow red trail with geralt's batman vision->fight monster at end. It's the writing that saves them from being utter junk, and rebirth's actual side quests took a page from that book by tying your companions to all of them and gives you more time to bond with them. Also the rest of TW3's world is very similar to rebirth's. Lots of repetitive POIs like bandit camps, places of power, useless smuggler caches etc.
They were really pushing it with the unnecessary side content on that game. I was so into the story, and wanted to know what happens next, but the stuff you had to do to clear areas or to get a little bit stronger was quite exhausting. The fact you had to do it on every part of the map and it was always the same stuff wasn't helpful either. Hopefully that gets fixed with Part 3.
After Junon I just started ignoring the shit out of those tower defense minigames or whatever they're called. Later in the game I started ignoring sidequests altogether. The game's combat is pristine, however, world traversal is, IMO, not that good. And having sidequests that require you to do just that, traversal, made me not want to complete them. Your character or whatever vehicle you're controlling is constantly fighting YOU, the player, for control. You can't go anywhere you want, you can't even jump by yourself, you have to rely on the game deciding when you can do that. Can't crash your Chocobo into the cliffs in Cosmo Canyon, can't crash the Tiny Bronco when controlling it in the sea, can't steer the buggy off a big cliff. The game will ALWAYS make sure it takes control away from you to steer you out of doing all these things. I feel like a goddamn 5 year old holding my mom's hand to cross the street.
I don't understand queen's blood. I always ignored queens blood. I don't know if I missed anything significant there, but I focused on the elements I actually enjoyed.
Yes as the game was overfilled with redundant bloat. Don’t even get me started on the idiotic decision to make boring ass queensblood mandatory when it’s obviously side content.
Yet another person who failed to listen to instructions. There is not a single moment in the game where queen's blood is mandatory. You can skip the introduction to it and you can forfeit the tournament on the boat, they tell you this. The NPC for it is right next to the one who advances it.
I still haven’t finished my playthrough. I like the games but I did end up just walking away as this suggests
I am willing to bet most people making comments didnt actually read the article. Just read the title and jump straight to leave a comment, based on the title.
That's how this stuff usually goes.
That's reddit lately
I just finished remake and have started intermission but I’m trying to rush through it to start rebirth. But I’m really worried I’m gonna get burnt out and won’t finish rebirth before GTA VI.
They're loss. Great game and if they didn't want to do it at the very least experience the story and skip the optional content.
This happened to me. I burned out trying to finish every single thing in each area. I need to get back to the game again before the next one.
Imo I feel like games like this are meant to be beaten and to be returned to at some later time when you start getting nostalgic. You’re not meant to do everything in one go and that’s okay, that means there’s still ways to enjoy the game later.
I broke at gold saucer against the Turks... two years ago. Didn’t touch it again until the other day. I really wish it was turn based, the fights feel more epic and focused.
The Turk fight is maddening, but gets easier if you bank a synergy move when they're powering up a death move they pull. The subsequent fight against Rufus was madness. I ended up turning the difficulty down for that fight. After I finished the game, I went back and beat him on normal, though even with my endgame skills, he's still frustrating.
They definitely Ubisofted the shit out of Rebirth. Once I see a map littered with activity icons I immediately lose much of enthusiasm to keep playing. I forced myself to play until the beach part and decided to stop. Started playing Cultic instead. Much more enjoyable experience.
Stepped away because of the insane amount of mini games and the combat which, more so than any other ff game to date, was style over substance in the worst kind of way.
I was doing a 100% playthrough so im used to tedious grinds. The send in the clowns mission made me put the game down for a year, and I still haven't come back to finish it.
how did they manage to take the middle part of a 30-35 hour game and make it 90 hours is insane
I went back to it this month and finally finished it. The last few chapters are bonkers. I’ve played two of these games now and still have no idea wtf is going on
I agree with a lot of the sentiment here but I find the side quests bring a lot of the character development and have decent rewards (at least compared to Remake). As an OG admirer, I love this stuff but the family grow tired of what seems like fluff. I think in part 3, I'll stick to core story beats, which should be the focus given the events that unfold and play more side quests on playthrough 2.
Gongoga killed my first playthrough. I'm gonna try again, and maybe just do only the main gongoga stuff, cause that zone was pure BS, IMO. Oh, and Chadley and Mai. Shut. The. Fuck. Up. You don't need to interrupt me after literally every single thing I do in a zone.
I gave up bothering with Chadley after Gongoga. It was useful to unlock the summons I did. Particularly for the endgame. But the constant annoyance was dragging me down. So I just ignored everything but the story from chapter 10 onwards.
Less is more. Hope they adjust things for the third part.
I just played on easy mode and did the story
if the side quests were a little more interesting or truly rewarding it would be no problem. the problem was adding side quests for the sake of adding side quests, most of them were just.................bad
I did side quests in the first area then just focused main story only after that. Was still long, but I finished in about 40 hours I think.
I just wanna be able to explore the world and find cool materia, weapons, monsters, and side story moments without Chadley yapping in my ear whenever I do something, is that so much to ask?
Please tell me they will make it so chadley doesn't call you ever five minutes and have it ruin the pacing of exploration.
The crazy thing is that most of the side content was actually fairly quality, but also none of it pulled the story forward and so despite most of the content being at least quality it negatively impacted the overall experience due to the pacing issues it causes.
This sub hates this game more than any other place on the internet I’ve seen. Everytime this series is brought up the top 15 comments are all shitting on it and it’s optional content that you don’t have to do
Part 1 was bloated too, this honestly could of been on 1 disc
