I'm booking an international flight for a scheduled vacation next January. About a month ago, I found a fantastic deal at around $450 but back then my schedule wasn't fixed so I let go of it. 2 weeks later when I searched the same flight on the same travel portal, it was 850. I let go again to speculate. 3 days ago 450 dollar fare showed up again, I tried to book but got called up for some shit and forgot about it. The next morning it went back up 850. I wonder the price tend to fluctuate and come back again....After seeing that 450 dollar fare (it's the same seating class, same airline btw) I can't buy anything above that!
Nobody knows. Just keep monitoring and actually pull the trigger when you see a price you’re happy with. If the price drops later, you can get United credit for the difference. Don’t book basic economy.

Set up a Google flight alert so you can monitor the price. You can set it to be just United flights.

You literally proved using field research that the price CAN come down and HAS come down. We don't know if it WILL come down. Based on your written field research, it SHOULD come down, but we don't know
Clear computer cookies between searches, or use different devices. Airlines use your search histories as a part of their fare calculators.
My paranoid belief is the cookies are tracking you. Need to so searches on another platform.
Those 450 seats are a bucket with a count on them, not really a price. Once the bucket's empty you're seeing the next one up at 850. It refills when people cancel or they release more into it, so it flickers instead of trending.
clesr your cookies, cache, and use a private browser like firefox on your home computer to search for the flight you want again, and take a screenshot of your results. Then immediately after, go to your local library and search for the flight on a computer there. Some people I know have done this and the flight has been significantly cheaper.
