its a play dude. the cats in cats arent actually cats
Let’s not….
I think you really need to think about how the mere sight of black people makes you think things like this.
You ever been in a theater even one time dude?
Left to right: Ashara Dayne, Princess Elia Martell, Queen Rhaella Targaryen, Lord Robert Baratheon, King Aerys II Targaryen, Lyanna Stark, Brandon Stark, Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, and Eddard Stark.

The costumes are so pretty.
Aerys' dragon headpiece is gorgeous. Not so sure about the rest though.
They aren’t allergic to colour like the shows.
Oh no... Those costumes look like they are from a discountsale at shein and wth is this wig of Rhaella?
It's a play. They are fine.
Good God......
Oh, boy
What’s funny?
Is Brandon taller than Robert?
Gorgeous costumes! I wih I could see it
You can tell who here is familiar with theatrical costuming and who isn’t lol
I feel like a lot of theatrical costumes don't look "good" in broad daylight or in a staged photo like this, because they're not meant to be seen that way. The lighting onstage during a performance makes a huge difference.
Cant wait to see this on r/freefolk where they'll be bitching and moaning about the costuming decisions made for a play theyre never going to see based on books they haven't read
Don't forget this is Theatre, not television. The costumes are always a little exaggerated since they'll be seen from a distance.
You have to reach the cheap seats.
If anything they feel closer to book accurate than anything the shows ever did.

I’ve seen gorgeous costumes from theatre. It just looks like they threw what they had in storage together and called it a day.
This is genuinely more accurate to the books and the medieval period than most of what GOT and HOTD did with the costumes
I have to say that Elia and Ashara costumes look more like 1890s/early 1900 dresses than anything vaguely medieval or even fantasy. Also what the hell is going on with Rhaella hair, I kind of like it.
Yes, love the bold use of House colours, but that tailoring (high collars, sleeves that are tight at the wrists) is pretty unmistakable, especially Ashara's. Maybe they're going for that era for Drone specifically? To me it's still kinda distracting...
they did the guy in the middle so dirty lmaooooo
King Aerys. From this photo it kind of looks like he’s wearing a trash bag, or a cloak made of magnetic tape. Maybe it pops on stage.
bro the queen looks incredible
Rhaella and Aerys look amazing, love the hair pieces to death!
Yeah, they are royal asf, demand immediate attention. The costume designer was very inspired. Really, really loved it
Ned is smol
Ice is an awful big sword for the shortest guy in the cast, compensating for something?
The aura of Aerys is unmatched
Elias and Ashara costumes are a pretty big miss. The don't look remotely medieval or Dornish.
Aerys looks so funny with that hair+mustache/beard combo
I'm guessing from left to right Ashara Front row - Elia, Aerys, Rhaegar Back row - Rhaella, Robert, Ned, Brandon, Howland
For the RSC that’s pretty poor costuming. Those fur cloaks look like bath mats
I enjoyed the Mughal aesthetic they seemed to give Oberon in the show. It’s kind of disappointing they dropped that here in favor of \~1850s England? It just seems like an odd choice
.... The costumes are bad
I believe the costums are the least of the problems here
oh hell Aerys, i see why they were loyal to him
I like the costumes
Why is Ned a manlet?
Ned is a short king
the costuming did such a nice job!
I'm not even going to mention the races because its theater, but why are they all so old? Elia and Ashara look like they are pushing 50.
I don't think that's atypical for theater? Besides, makeup and lighting can be used to great effect for this, especially since not all audience members are sitting right at the front anyways.
Tbh, they’ve yet to find a Rhaegar as hot as I always envision him
Harry Lloyd mogged too much as Vizzy 3, and Rhaegar is supposed to be even more gorgeous. Not easy to cast.
What are you talking about? This guy looks fire.
I know this is such a basic b answer- but I’ve always envisioned Jamie Campbell bower as rhaegar. He has that sort of otherworldly beauty. Especially when he was in Camelot.
I mean, the younger version of the actor who played Daeron the Drunken, aka, Henry Ashton is basically the Rhaegar fan cast now
Rhaelle's hair makes me happy. Asoiaf is kinda missing funky hairstyles like the ones seen in a lot of the Valyrian-centric fanart.
It makes me dream of what I would have styled for each house. I know we saw hair trends on GoT(tv) go in and out of fashion; but now I wish we saw something bigger for the weddings or events that was house based. This is awesome.
An old man as Aerys again ffs Crazy old man is way less interesting than a formerly handsome Targaryen devolving into an unhinged, dirty, paranoid maniac
I think he reads exactly like that! Maybe *I'm* the one getting old, but I saw it and was like "oh, interesting and cool they're showing him young (40?) and starting to go to seed."
I hadn’t seen them before, this is theatre so it’s sort of to he expected but I can’t say a single one of them really captures the characters for me.
So glad i didnt pay for this crap, not travelling from london to stratford to see a brixton cast
a mess
I think Aerys II is kind of crushing it. Look at the face alone! This guy is *nuts*. I'm impressed.
He's giving off Ashley Shaffer vibes
Finally an ASOIAF adaptations with bright colors and creative costumes
I really like Rhaella's crown. At the risk of sounding stupid (I have very little knowledge about fashion and design tbh) it looks almost kind of sci-fi to me, but in a way that I think is very suitable for the Targaryens.

I am not writing anything until I deliver WINDS OF WINTER. Teleplays, screenplays, short stories, introductions, forewords, nothing. And I've dropped all my editing projects but Wild Cards.
This comment is almost 11 years old. We need a wild cards play next!!
I'm so glad that they gave historically oppressed minorities the chance to be part of this production!
Aerys is so cunty
that red color slays!!! great shade
Lmao
Quick, someone ask Linda what she thinks. Anyone else remember her reaction to Hermione?
Jojo Siwa lookin' ass
I love Aerys. I know in theatre they cast based off talent and not booked accuracy ( stark casting, I’m looking at you) but I think he nails it
