Diogenes the Cynic: The Philosopher Who taught the world how to live

Most people know Diogenes as the philosopher who supposedly lived in a barrel and told Alexander the Great to "stand out of my sunlight." But those famous stories are only part of a much larger philosophy.

Diogenese wasn't a Cynic, they just claimed him later. As for your closing question, his myth perfectly encapuslates both, but there is so little information about him it's impossible to really know.

  I was under the impression that Diogenes was definitely a Cynic (regardless of whether he claimed to be one as he didn't bother much about it). Can you please elaborate on it?

I think it was a combination of provocation (shitting in the academy, if true, can be considered in no other way; I think Diogenes wld be the first to admit it was performative) and wisdom. Diogenes remained true to the body, to the organism he was. For him, that body preceded mind. Whatever else follows, that is, in western terms, one of the most original starting-points of the lot.

El socrático verdadero. La pregunta es lo primero y ante una respuesta, otra pregunta. La anécdota con Aristipo es reveladora aunque yo considero que las conclusiones habituales son equivocadas.
