Sometimes I customise folder icons using the shell32.dll. I did a bit of digging and learned there are a lot more icons inside Windows you can use to customise your folders.
To use just delete shell32.dll in the browser field and type the dll mentioned in the image, they are all located in the same folder as shell32 so you don't need to change the path.
Taken from Windows 11.

I've always been curious in how was all of that DLLs built, how could one see their functions or content in a graphical way, not only in a icons reader.
Forgot imageres.dll I think nirsoft has a program that will scan DLLs and EXEs for icons
IconsExtract
They still all look like they were made by a 10-year old.
No they really don't.
While many are older icons they can actually be surprisingly hard to do yourself because icons tend to be displayed at different sizes and still convey the right info. Nowadays it's not an issue because we have much higher resolution images available for icons but back then you had 16 x16 and 32x 32 but pixels images to work with.
I love how they mostly look old as fuck and then there are random xp and vista icons scattered throughout lmao
Regarding the MMCNDMGR.DLL icons, you can see additional information when you create taskpad views in MMC. To do that, add a couple of snap-ins and create a taskpad view.
This is good. I definitely expore these.
are we in 2004?
Sadly not. Because I would be customising my folder backgrounds as well and not just the folder icon.
pifmgr.dll, good times
Try OneDrive.exe.
Finally a use for Onedrive!
Icons provided by NetShell.dll always bring me back to the old days. win98 is my first Windows.
Dang that’s cool! I used to customise my icons as well, thanks for the new sources!
