It's a work trip so I won't have all the time, but I'm taking a PTO day in Paris to explore. Any recommendations are recommended, if something touristy is still worth it, lmk. Looking to bring back 5-6 bottles as well so if there are any wine shops/bars with unique stuff that is hard to find in the states, that'd be great.
In Vienna, Weingut Cobenzl is bit outside but they do a nice heuriger with their own wines, you can sit in the garden and try few glasses. For shops, Vinothek St. Stephan has some good austrian stuff that never makes it to US. Paris you should check La Dernière Goutte, tiny shop in 6th arrondissement, the owner brings in small producers you won't find anywhere else. Also Septime La Cave is good for natural wines if you're into that, they pack bottles for travel if you ask
For a great into in Austrian wine go pub klemo, its the bar of a bottle shop and has the best staff in town. They always have tastings going which you can find online. In the bar you can buy the bottles or the shop too, they just walk across the street to get them.
In Paris i enjoyed my lunch at Le Bon George’s. There good wine and a great baba Rum dessert Also I was recommend star wine list over Michelin. I think many Michelin recs are kind of trash in Europe if even at the 1 star level. Also this is more food than wine but they have nice wine. There is a restaurant in the back of a butcher shop called Bidoche Oberkampf But the real vibe is grabbing some cheese and wine and sitting for the afternoon in Luxembourg park or by the river in the evening. finding a nice cafe in a more lived in area and just watching the show that is Paris walk by you will never be a bad choice
