I've seen people use those stock tanks for pond setups and they work great, so it makes sense for a sump too. My neighbor built one last year and it's been holding up perfectly.

im sure people have but it's much cheaper to use a 55g food safe water barrel. That's what I do for my fish n shrimp operation :)
We have the stock tanks already. Just need to find a good way to turn them into sumps.
