Does she need new knives or does she just need the ones she has sharpened? The latter could also be a lovely gift, especially if you’re on a budget
No she definitely needs new ones, they’re pretty old and dull, and I can do a budget of 150.
Hey y’all! My mom’s birthday is coming up in August and I noticed that she has very dull knifes. I want to give a new knife set because she loves to cook. So, which set would y’all recommend that’s reasonably priced and not overly expensive.

if dull knives she either doesnt sharpen them enough, or finds it a hassle to. i would recommend looking for sturdier stainless steel blades for less mantainance, and maybe a honing steel or some kind of sharpening equipment too.
Personally. I’d get a simple set of Fibrox. Easy to take care of. And this gives her a good serrated knife as well as a paring knife. You could just buy the 8” and the paring and cover about 95% of her needs. Sharp and good quality. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004IEBTZ4?lv=shuf&rsd=7vPakfNQrDseFUUmoeUgkWC0W9FQ4S8RqXuW%2BDUfPTuoofoeYXohC%2BuGtfokvwuS%2FPVUNwxI2Y8HfLOlGZVNzysMLSyJ0ev%2B%2BYPxWZFVaMYf%2F8Wc4EDhsg%3D%3D&edk=AQIDAHi1lw%2FM8UbbSMD9ScOOFEmBMHMthHeEhqDaQYPJUAX3jQGfRIcRKM3Z5dBYsyCize7jAAAAfjB8BgkqhkiG9w0BBwagbzBtAgEAMGgGCSqGSIb3DQEHATAeBglghkgBZQMEAS4wEQQMn7qli4emll67kLalAgEQgDs77a9%2Fuo10hSG%2F9ENT%2FV7XMb8B4qEjcoyxlKJ1iftXShWzbQClS1gJiknLwuQihbH7DfEwIhvp7chy7g%3D%3D&channelId=704&ref\_=cm\_sw\_r\_apin\_dp\_ZNJ398NJ5MNHJM7B9813\_1&plpRedirect=mhFallback
Don't buy a knife set, buy a couple of really good knives. A chef's knife (or santoku) and a paring knife are all anybody needs. I like the MAC Professional series.
A bread knife is also WAY more useful than most people expect. It is my go to tool for de-skinning melons, for instance.
the vast majority of people use like 2 or 3 of the knives in an entire set/block. they might use the other ones when their preferred knife is dirty. Is that also true for your mom? If so, maybe focus your budget on getting her a nicer primary knife and maybe a monthly GC to your local knife sharpener.
KAI are amazing knives from Japan.
Buy one or two Wusthof knives,
Find a hardware store or kitchen store that sharpens knives.
but 2-3 really nice knives
OK...hear me out...Ikea. Their 365+ series are reasonable quality, hold an edge, are comfortable in the hand, and resharpen well.

What this guy said. The 365+ are better quality than the Victorinox Fibrox at half the price. The new Vardagen series with the wooden handle is even more affordable, but the handle needs a bit of refinishing with most of them. The tang protrudes 1/10th of a millimeter beyond the wooden scales and feels unpleasant in the hand.

While your gesture is nice, $150 will not probably not get her a good set of knives. I would recommend one good chef’s knife and/or a good knife sharpener.

Don't buy a set, buy based on what knife works best for its pupose
You don’t need to sit. Just replace the knife she uses most. Is it a chef knife? It is a pairing knife? It would be better to spend more money on one good knife, like a Wusthof or Henkels, rather than an entire 12 knife set of something inferior. I also second getting her knives sharpened as a gift.
Mercer. They use the same steel as the more expensive German brands. You can find them on Amazon. Get whatever style of chef knife your mom likes, a boning knife, and a paring knife. If needed, a 10" bread knife. That's all most folks need.
