My boy is on some antibiotics and pain medicine for a puncture wound in his mouth. He hasn’t really been wanting to eat his usual kibble but I do see him occasionally eating it. Is it ok that I’m giving him things he will eat, like oats peas corn etc? He needs to have food in his stomach for his antibiotics. Or do you suggest I feed something else?
You should absolutely give him soft foods. He will very likely benefit from not eating kibble. Baby food, critical care and herbs would a bit more friendly. Frankly I'd opt for Critical Care, as they normally do gobble it up and it's quite nutrient dense. Very popular snacks in my home are blueberries, mint leaves and cilantro.

I usually give all my rats who are recovering hearty treats like fish, chicken, nuts, yogurt. Just nothing bad for them, and dont make it a habit or they will become fat.
Protein baby food and pouches are what I fed my girl after surgery, she was curious as it was new so it encouraged her to eat more too!
As well as what has been said, if you just get treats in his stomach that's good enough for antibiotics. I'm sure he's miserable with the wound so some tasty food will be good for him to lift his spirits, I've never met a rat issue a treat didn't solve
