got a small work team of 4 heading up to Boston for a conference next month.
Amtrak tickets are surprisingly expensive for our dates and flying out of LGA feels like a hassle once you factor in security and airport wait times. someone suggested just booking a private long distance driver so we can work in the car.
I was looking at some black care services since they do intercity black car runs from NYC to Boston. split four ways between team members it actually doesn't seem terrible compared to train fares. has anyone done a private driver for the Boston run before? how bad was traffic getting out of the city on a Thursday morning?

Don't be a cheap ass fks and pay the tickets for people. I hate this kind od stuff. Recently my friend was sent on an event with car with 12 hours ride in one way.
The actual comparison worth running isn't private car vs. flying, it's private car vs. Amtrak specifically, since Acela already has wifi and tables and lets your team work the whole way - so a private car's real advantage over the train isn't work time, it's door-to-door convenience and not being locked to a fixed departure. Whether that's worth it comes down to totaling the full cost each way, not just the sticker price: train fare vs. the split car cost, but also getting to/from Penn Station vs. door-to-door, and for the flight option, security + wait time + getting to/from the airports on both ends, which is real time even if the ticket itself is cheap. On traffic specifically: a Thursday morning out of the city is genuinely unpredictable rather than a fixed cost - the NYC-Boston corridor (I-95/I-91 or the Merritt/Wilbur Cross route) can add anywhere from a modest amount to a couple of hours depending on timing, so it's worth treating that as a real risk to your conference arrival time, not just a minor inconvenience, when a train has a fixed schedule you can plan around.
