I'm curious about learning computer science and coding, not as a full-time career but as a way to earn some side income. Has it been worth it for you? What realistic side hustles did it open up?
I guess if you do bug bounties then yeah it can pay a decent amount for side-income. But generally if you’re just planning to create software, it needs to be software that people think is worth the price tag you put on it and it needs to be something people will use that has longevity. Otherwise it’s not gonna do much as a side hustle. I could be wrong though because I’ve never been exposed to the freelance side of things, this is my career.
Honestly you can't get paid for it if you don't make it a career.

Not really viable as a side hustle. Too much to learn and very few places want to hire a single part-time dev. It's either a hobby or your career in all but exceptional cases, e.g. where someone has managed to license or otherwise monetise something they built.
