What are they paying Brady for boring cliches and basic observations? Romo is solid. I’m not sure he’s worth $18m a year, nor are many commentators but the market is the market

He's not losing his career over a DWI. As shitty as it is to say, the reality is most people have driven while legally intoxicated at least once. Mike Tirico has multiple sexual harassment allegations and is still on air so I really don't think a DWI is where a network would choose to draw the line.
But a network that feels like it's overpaying someone and has a morality clause in the contract might very well choose to draw the line there.
The speculation is that CBS might be using this as an excuse to get out of the Romo deal, not due to public pressure.

I strongly doubt that. Listen - it's uncool to drink too much golfing and drive over the limit but it's understandable (not like he took drugs and knifed a guy...). CBS doesn't want to ditch Romo's contract because he's a great announcer. They'll slap him on the wrists with a game or two suspension to show they don't approve of DUIs but that's gonna be it.

Tony Romo was undoubtedly the most overrated color commentator in NFL history.
Romo is an idiot for not calling for a ride share, but CBS firing him for an OWI seems excessive to me. If they do, it’s a cost cutting move with a valid contractual clause.
CBS wants to get out of that contract. The OWI just gave them the legal pretense to do so. If Romo were worth what they are paying him, this could be his fifth offense and CBS wouldn't care.
They just want out of Romo's contract. The current owners of CBS didn't sign Romo to the contract, they inherited it. They are also taking on massive debt trying to buy WB.
I don’t think it’s excessive at all, it’s a dangerous, reckless, shitty thing for any person to do. I wish more people experienced real consequences for it. But you are right, they’re definitely not thinking from that standpoint they want out of that garbage contract.
