[Rick et Morty] Question sur la Courbe Finie Centrale (CFC)

Si la CFC isole tous les univers où Rick est l'homme le plus intelligent au monde, comment ça se fait qu'il y ait un Rick « le Niais » dans la saison 1 ? Ou est-ce qu'il vient tout simplement d'un univers où tout le monde est d'une manière ou d'une autre encore plus con que lui ?

  Also, he's not actually dumb. He's a bit weird, a bit uncoordinated, but he can make stuff as easily as any of the other Ricks. Doofus Rick is what Ricks call him. But Immature Rick is probably more accurate.

Despite being deemed a "doofus", Doofus Rick is able to create ovenless brownies and portal fluid, the latter of which is shown by him using a portal gun to travel between his dimension and Dimension C-131. This indicates that Doofus Rick only looks unintelligent, and is actually just as scientifically skilled and resourceful as his alternate counterparts. He is definitely more emotionally intelligent than other Ricks, as seen by his interactions with Jerry. The "doofus" label may simply be an additional way in which the other Ricks bully him.

Though I'm not sure the other Ricks are emotionally unintelligent. It's not that they don't know how you feel. It's that they don't care.

  They might be emotionally perceptive, able to detect what others are feeling, but I would call most Ricks emotionally immature. They’re all miserable drunks who see anyone else’s happiness as a challenge, if the smartest man in the universe is miserable, so should everyone be

So, the Central Finite Curve contains universes where the resident Rick is the smartest man in that particular universe. Doofus Rick can therefore be considerably less capable than C-137 and still qualify. He only has to outrank everyone back home, not survive an entrance exam administered by the Rick who turned himself into a pickle. More importantly, the episode never really shows him being unintelligent. He understands the other Ricks’ equipment, participates in the investigation and produces instant ovenless brownies by mixing chemicals in Jerry’s kitchen. Jerry thinks he’s performing a miracle. Doofus Rick casually explains that it’s just chemistry. What makes him a doofus to the other Ricks is largely that he’s gentle, earnest and willing to enjoy Jerry’s company. Rick culture treats contempt as proof of intelligence. A Rick who doesn’t humiliate everyone in the room has to be defective. The claim that he eats his own faeces is another Rick insulting him, not something we ever see him do. He may still be one of the less brilliant Ricks on the Citadel. The Curve includes an enormous range of realities, so its weakest qualifying Rick could be far below its strongest. A man can be the best chess player in his village and still spend a tournament with grandmasters discovering entirely new ways to lose. His home universe also doesn’t need to be populated by complete idiots. Doofus Rick may still be an extraordinary scientist by human standards. C-137 can build devices that bully causality before breakfast. Being unimpressive beside him tells us very little about how Doofus Rick compares with a normal physicist. There’s also a slight looseness in Evil Morty’s explanation. He describes the Curve as separating universes where Rick is the smartest man from those where he isn’t. That tells us the principle behind it, not necessarily that some machine constantly measures every citizen’s intelligence and ejects a universe whenever Rick has an off day. The Citadel selected a favourable portion of infinity in which Ricks generally occupy the top intellectual position. Doofus Rick is probably the smartest man in his own universe. He’s only a doofus after being dragged into a city containing thousands of rival versions of himself, most of whom regard basic kindness as evidence of brain damage.

It isolates the universes where the Ricks are the smartest being in their specific universe. That doesnt mean all the Ricks are as smart as each other. Rick C137 is proof of that. Doofus Rick could be from a particularly dumb universe.

Not all Ricks live up to or achieve their full potential. In fact most of them took shortcuts and didnt even invent portal travel themselves.

Doofus Rick isnt actually that dumb. Hes bullied and called 'Doofus Rick' primarily because he seems to be a lot more humble and less confident than the other Ricks.

As others have said: Be smartest doesn't mean it shows or that all of them reach their full potential, we saw one that is happy (for a while) be just a college professor. Second Doofus is call like that probably because is kinder and more emotionally open than other Ricks not because is dumb.

The common interpretation seems to be "Doofus Rick is still the smartest man in the Doofus reality", but personally I think that we just got a casual and imprecise definition of the CFC. It's not strictly defined by that "Rick is the smartest" rule, instead it's defined by some suit of conditions that can easily be articulated on the right scientific level to define the CFC, and those conditions are chosen as best as they can to cover the worlds in the infinite multiverse where Rick is the smartest man. It's basically looking for "sufficiently similar" realities in the same way we see out Rick skip through worlds at times, particularly when he's moving to a new base. It is not a law of the CFC that Rick be the smartest man there (he'll, I'd argue that Evil Morty proved that to a significant degree), that's just a description of what the CFC was designed for.

The core premise of the Central Finite Curve is that it ringfences all the universes where the local Rick is the smartest person from those where there is someone smarter than Rick. But sometimes we see dimensions that are so different to ours that it's hard to believe there's a Rick there at all. Like the planet of giant butts that fart into the air and have toiletpaper trees. Is there a butt-rick somewhere on that planet? Or they talk about the Blender Dimension which is entirely made of blenders and when a Rick goes in there he gets shredded to meat chunks instantly, so is there a Rick in the Blender dimension? Blenderrick just like there was a HammerMorty in the citadel? Was there a Chairrick eating takeaway phones in that episode with the phones/chairs/pizzas gag? Or maybe there's a loophole. Any dimension where the smartest person is dumber than the average Jerry is considered to be too dumb to matter, those ones are allowed inside the Central Finite Curve. The whole point of the curve is to keep out the smarter people, it doesn't matter if there's dimensions full of dumb people in there. Or dimensions with no people at all, just butts and blenders.

He's one of the few ricks that can make their own portal fluid and all that, so it's more the ricks just dislike how he's not really like them (broken emotionally) and actually cares about things.

Doofus Rick only looks dumb because he's a softie with a bad haircut in a room full of sarcastic bullies who have all decided to use him as their personal punching bag. Give him actual science to do (like making instant oven less brownies) and he'll deliver, and have an actual chat with him and he'll show himself as a sensitive man who doesn't solve all his problems with insults, violence or self-medication. And all this, in turn, tracks back to the weird relationship the Infinite Rick has with itself, where they simultaneously devalue being a "Rick" by making drunken brilliance the big standard minimum, but treating any Rick that goes too far outside the standards as cattle or a target (see Doofus Rick and Simple Rick). Every Citadel Rick with a position nicer than assembly line goon seems inclined to punch down at any Rick beneath them, likely out of the insecurity that comes with knowing that the only thing separating them from their victims is lucky accidents of timing or origin.
