Definitely a case by case basis thing if something is interesting enough it can hold my attention but if it doesn't background music it is
I’ve noticed that with movies and tv shows that I’ve never seen specifically, I have to constantly pay attention. If I wanna go on my phone or do something else, I have to pause it. Just because I don’t wanna miss anything. That also may have to do with me being a huge movie fan.
But it’s different with YouTube videos, for example. I can play a YouTube video while drawing and cleaning and not pay 100% of my attention to it.
Which boat are you? Do you feel as if you can’t miss a second, or do put things on more for background noise?

I'm just like you, while my wife is the opposite. It takes so much for me to not get annoyed with her, bc I am a big movie buff, too
The amount of plot points my partner misses and then says she didn’t like a show/movie or is just lost later on is infuriating. Just watch the show! It compounds too, asking me in a completely different show “What is ICE?” (We’re in the UK) on the third show showing an ICE detention centre or related plot points. Just pay attention and you learn things about the world you can use later for other comprehension!
If I talk about movie that i watch with full attention but series, sometimes it takes me weeks to finish 8 episode.
Short form videos have ruined my attention span. I have to find something REALLY interesting
If I pick up my phone during a movie, I've basically accepted that I have no idea what's happening anymore.

Phone during commercials only. Otherwise I have to rewatch
I have things that I put on to watch and things I put on for background noise. But if it's background noise,I won't take in much. When I watch sth, I WATCH it. I get unreasonably annoyed when someone gets their phone out whilst watching sth. Like why are you even here if you're not gonna actually pay attention??
I’m like you with movies I care about, but I treat most YouTube like a podcast I half-listen to while folding laundry or cooking.
I like to google actors, google things about the show etc sometimes. It's not about holding my attention, it's just part of the process for me.
I do the same but I never pause anything I am watching because when I am watching and enjoying something I am there, in the movie, not here in my living room, it is as if I cease to exist for a while. So all the Google about actors, story, places and nudes are done long after I finished watching the film or show. Like in bed after dinner just before go to sleep.

I'm one of those Luddites with no phone but when I watch pretty much any show it's with my daughter and we are constantly talking and stopping the video to go look someone or thing up. It can take us a couple hours to watch a single House of the Dragon episode. Most of the YT channels I follow I don't really even have to watch I just listen with another window open. I do this all night while I work. Usually I can follow fine but sometimes I'll have the window up but tiny so if I need to look at the screen I can.
To me it depends! If i'm watching a movie that i really wanted to see i'm completely focused on the movie, no phone but if it's something more casual and easy like i don't know, watching a youtube video or a simple movie just to pass time? Then yes, sometimes i take my phone
I was born in 20th century. Back then nobody had smartphone to get them distracted from the good things in life.
I pay attention if it's something I want to watch...? I mean, I can watch things and do things at the same time, sure. I can listen to music and work, for example. But if I decide to watch some TV or a film, I watch it.
I do my best to really pay attention to and enjoy what I’m watching. I’m working on doing that more
