The perfect buildup with raw emotions. Amazing delivery, with the og bgm. The only fight ever to give me chills (The kurama chakra and sasuke's curse mode lvl 2 left me terrified as a child). And most of all uncertainty. Had no idea about what the outcome would be. Other great fights like naruto vs pain and jiraiya vs pain lacked uncertainty(everybody knew jiraiya was going to die just by his conversations and scenes before the fight). Rock lee vs gaara was amazing and was emotional but simply lacked the buildup to be the greatest battle. Naruto vs sasuke part 2 was simply disappointing. Felt like cardboard. The closest thing to naruto vs sasuke part 1 is def kakashi vs obito.

I still think VoTE 2 is amazing and kakashi vs obito too. But I’d definitely have to give this fight the top spot for everything. Emotions, choreo, story, soundtrack, etc.
Kakashi v Obito is one of the greatest sequences for taijutsu in the Anime for me for sure
Agreed it’s the build up to the fight and everything that’s seemingly at stake with either outcome. Sasuke either win, possibly kills Naruto for mangekyou and goes to Orochimaru to get more power to kill Itachi or Naruto wins and takes Sasuke back to the village which doesn’t solve the underlying issue that Sasuke is facing to begin with. The most important part of fight is Naruto realizing that this was never a rescue mission because Sasuke never wanted to be saved

Pierrot added some original scenes which enhanced the source material. Sasuke piledriving Naruto is anime exclusive.
I much prefer Naruto vs Sasuke P2. I think P1 flows better, and is build up better, with a conclusion that left me shocked. However I think Part 2 has 3 moments surrounding the fight that take it into best fight in naruto category. Sasuke's 'I've lost' monologue Sasuke's 'To be a ninja' monologue The unison sign. These three moments all happen directly happen after the fight, so maybe it is cheating, but its the result of the fight and conclusion to their dynamic and journey. I think its completley valid to have the three moments I just mentioned, be the best three written moments in the whole series.

I agree, I actually believe the majority of the fights in Naruto are better than the ones in Shippuden. The problem with every other fight is that the scale of these characters gets so high, that the actually hand to hand combat becomes worth less. You see this problem in Dragon Ball as the stakes keep getting higher. Naruto vs. Sasuke in part 1 is the perfect balance of grounded combat while still having fantastic powers.
Agreed Naruto vs pain was more hype, but the choreography is nowhere near, not to mention the way it ends
