yep. even in the 90s when it was "better" it still sucked. When you go broke, you're broke. There's no getting back up. The state will even take the children away from families who are "too poor" I know good people there who arent assholes, however the assholes are the ones who want power and control. They will take over the government and push their vision on everyone. TN is a state that is still pissed it can't own black people as property and filled with people mad that they lost the war in the 1860s. The schools out there are run by people who talk about the war of northern hostility, and will tell black students to their face that they're "lucky" not to be working the fields by the sheer kindness of white people who "decided" they can be free and reminded them it's a "privilege". One of my teachers literally said that shit to our class. My 4th grade teacher (may she burn in hell) She said that in a way to remind them to "behave" or they one day may end up back where they once were. No she did not get in trouble for that.

When I left TN in 2000, people like this were the fringe. The state was going into a better direction. It's shocking, but not surprising it's gone backwards as much as it has. Shocking at how fast it shifted back to the 1950s, but not surprising because these people still existed out there. There was a guy my dad worked with who only got black dogs and named them various racial slurs for black people. Big piece of shit of a human being. However did the whole hide behind being a churchgoer. White nationalism realized they needed to hijack religion to get traction, and were able to fearmonger about LGBT long enough to pull people into their special churches. There was one when I lived there that was two towns over people thought was a joke in the 1990s who burned pokemon cards because they were "demons" but in reality they just hated anything japanese because.. they were popular things made by non-whites. Also burned harry potter books as well. It's sad these people have taken back over, and the state is honestly in a worse place than it was even back during the 1980s during the religious revival that happened there with the born again christians.
