Earlier this Thursday while I was away for college, my cat pansy passed away. I was unaware of this until 10 minutes ago. I’ve been crying for the past few minutes holding her sister cat in my arms in bed.

I am a middle aged man, and I have two children in college right now. I have had cats all my life, and have mourned the passing of many of my furry family over the years…I feel for you and feel your pain. Nothing is going to make it better, except time - and they are wounds that never completely heal. The loss of a pet is as painful and impactful as the death of a parent or child - because our pets love us unconditionally, more so than most people do. So what you’re feeling is real, it’s normal - do not feel or let anyone make you feel silly or stupid for your grief, nor should you allow anyone to minimize your loss. I have found, for me at least, I just have to be sad. I don’t push the sadness away - I embrace it. It hurts because they mattered…and you do them a disservice to not feel their loss in your soul. Surround yourself with those you love and who support you, take time for yourself, and feel the grief - but also know it’s ok to distract yourself and take a break from it too. Hugs, your kitty was beautiful and lived a loved life - and they loved you. Remember all these things.
This is very beautiful and very true. ❤️
