You could try a more open filet crochet. So chaining two instead of one. And in one filled space you do 2 instead of just one. That way there's more open space and that way the filled squares will stand out more

Ehhhhhhhh.... I ran into something similar on my current piece I ended up switching to a smaller hook and, more importantly, I am now doing linked double crochets. https://moralefiber.blog/2018/02/02/linked-double-crochet-tutorial/ (Actually, I am doing extended, linked double crochets because I ended up with rectangles instead of squares with plain linked dc).

I’ve done a good amount of filet crochet. The suggestion from u/lasserna is a good one (to do ch2/2dc filet crochet instead).
I will also just say that, in my experience, worsted yarn is not great for filet crochet. The whole thing with filet is that you need very good definition between your open and filled pixels. If the yarn itself is thick, it makes the open pixels less open and, therefore, less distinguishable from the filled pixels. Here is a piece I did with crochet thread (size 10) and a 1.4mm hook as an example.
Some other suggestions: - you can try linked double crochet (ldc) to make the filled pixels more dense - you can try a larger hook to make the stitches a bit taller and more open, but that may affect how square they look - you can try inverting the image (i.e. make the v out of open pixels and the background filled pixels) but it will take more yarn/time
Filet is really fun! It just takes time to find what works best with your tension for your project.
Try cotton yarn. It has good stitch definition and will block nicely, both of which will help the visibility.

I think the yarns not helping, you need that crisp cotton yarn cause the fuzz fills in the hole. I'm struggling with filet crochet definition with my projects and it does look a lot better if you hold it up in a light area as opposed to lying it flat down but i don't know if that'll help with this.
