I went there but never got to ski though. it was during a pretty tough time in my life but my wife and I already had the trip planned. luckily it ended up being one of the best places I have ever been to in my life. the glacier melting makes me very sad.

Zermatt is also one of my favorite places! Went in the summer a couple years back. You did not miss out on skiing in the summer. Cool experience but it’s essentially one run
What are the usual summer temps there? Googling zermatt it says its 60 F. I'd imagine colder at the glacier
normally at 3800hm it should never be above 0°C at least hasn't been for a few hundred years except in the last 20 ... actuall temperature in the sun with the reflection of the snow feals more like 20-25° easy t-shirt weather after 10pm ...
I don't understand at all conditions been so good recently? probably has something to do with emty lifts/ pistes but ofc climate change is real and fucked them up a lot...
Not sure what you mean by conditions been so good recently? Switzerland is in its 4th heatwave before August. Fireworks have been totally banned for Swiss National Day due to the droughts, and wildfires are beating records in Europe.

Also you need no longer crampons to climb Matterhorn, since all the snow on the main route is now gone
Actually the Matterhorn is also kinda closed now. You can still climb it, if you want, but no guide is going up there with you. The dry weather have massively increased the chances of rockfall

Lol I keep saying there will be no more glaciers in 10 - 15 years in Europe. I'm in Switzerland for 4 years and my first glacier that I climbed is now missing a few hundred meters of ice, a few hundred meters...
How did you make your way to Switzerland?

You keep saying? Meaning told you or teach that that before? Science says we’re going to lose all our glaciers eventually, and I’ve learned that as a kid more than 30 years ago, in Switzerland. There are even public signs explaining how our glaciers are melting, everywhere, with “before” and “after” pictures. My own kids have seen these signs, and the older one who is 8 has seen it at school here. To be honest, I was amazed to se some traces of probably around Verbier (I’m in Martigny right now).

Hintertux has also closed its summer skiing this year. Wasn't clear if this is just for this year or Austria is losing it's only 365 ski resort
I was there a few weeks ago and even then it was a bit iffy on will they open or not. A few days after skiing there they did not open bcs of rain the previous night. Last snowfall in April. Very warm since then. The glacier looked rough! The only nice and ok snow was from the highest point on the swiss side to the upper parts of the slalom training area. Around 12:00 the middle slope had these wild slushy dunes.
Looks like Snowbird this past February.
