Telling someone they’re “lucky”, “fortunate” or “blessed” is a slap in the face.

I am not talking about the people who were obviously born into money or born into good circumstances but for myself or others like me. I’ve worked hard for everything I have and have become. I’ve sacrificed and pushed thru, killed myself my whole 20’s. So when people tell me I’m any of the things stated above, it’s a slap in the face. There was no luck involved, there wasn’t good fortune and it wasn’t a blessing. It was perseverance and hard work. I feel like it reduces my accomplishments and resilience to coincidences.

A lot of people did all those things you did and more and still might not have what you have. Of course hard work is important, but pretty much everybody had a lucky break or two along the way.

Even if you worked hard there is still an element of luck involved. For example, getting hit by a bus would be very unlucky and would make it much more difficult to continue working hard for awhile

There was good luck, fortunes, and blessings involved. Nobody is taking away your hard work by saying that. You could be paralyzed right now from a car accident you didn’t cause on your way to work. You have no appreciation, boy.

I think i agree that telling someone else they are lucky is not a good idea, because you don't know all their circumstances. Imagine telling someone with cancer they are lucky for any reason... On the other hand, you put in a lot of work and succeeded. There definitely were others who put in way more work than you and failed. Therefore you succeeding is objectively partly due to luck.

It's a slap in the face to say you're "just lucky". Pretty much every success has some level of luck involved, and getting thrown under the proverbial bus seems a lot more common than coming out of any economic downturn unscathed.

And for many people, it's a slap in the face if you think you aren't lucky, fortunate or blessed, even though you have it way better then them. And there will always be people that are way worse off than you.

The thing is most success is luck. You happened to find the company to raise you above others. You were blessed with the physical health to work hard. Your hard work actually counted towards something. You were lucky enough to be acknowledged for your work. Some people can give it everything they have and still fail and or get screwed over by someone else who is capable of doing more than YOUR best. Hard work doesn’t always guarantee success. You can be a high iq individual with physical health but an unlucky childhood could leave you mentally unable to succeed while you aren’t lucky enough to have access to programs that could help you. No matter how hard you think you worked, you were still in the right place at the right time.
