I bought 9 avocados and most of them were black on the inside. Should I just not buy avocados anymore? I buy them from my grocery store and i even bought different organic avocados and they stil were spoiled. I put them in a paper bag with an apple and check them twice a day. when they're slightly soft i put them in the fridge and then when i cut into them they're back: What do you think my solution is ?
You've got a lot of avocado issues, friend, issues that I've never even had, even living here in Sweden. Your solution might just be to stop buying avocado or buy them when they're ripe and use them immediately.

Why would you think you can eat 9 avocados before they go bad? Unless you're making something with them all, buy like 2, one that's still unripe, and one that's ripe or almost ripe, and go from there
I bought 6 then 9. i was gonna put them in the r for ridge if they all ripened at different stages then i could it them l. but most of them went bad. i bought exta just do seee how much came out good
That’s a lot of avocados to have on hand at once. They don’t need a bag and apple to ripen. Buy them slightly firm, and consume when they yield under light pressure. They also don’t need to be refrigerated unless they are in danger of over ripening. And they certainly don’t need twice daily checks.
the reason i bought that many avocados is i wanted to see how many came out good or bad. most came out bad . i was planning on eating them too. i know they don't need a bag and apple but they speed up the ripening process. i do squeeze for slight pressure not mushy. well i learned to refrigerate when ripe to keep them ripe longer. it's common knowledge. i found checking twice helps me find out when they're ripened. i know you don't need to but i like to check twice
Your process is backwards. I buy hard avocados, put a couple in a bowl on the counter and the rest in a bowl in the fridge (*not* in the veggie bin, just on the shelf). I use the avocados on the counter as they ripen. It takes 1 to 3 days for the avocados to ripen on the counter in a bowl, by themselves — no apple. As I use an avocado, I replace it with one from the fridge. You are ripening and then storing them in the fridge.
i follow the process that i learned on reddit and online. i do the proper process .my avocados take 4-9 days to ripen. thsts what i learned to ripen them then put in fridge so it last longer

That is how I do it too. Ripen one on the counter for use. Unripe ones in fridge. The time involved to ripen depends upon how ripe they were when you got them and your climate.
I'm guessing the problem lies somewhere during the putting them in a bag with an apple and waiting for them to get soft part

I’m having the same issues. The avocados at my usual grocery store (Shaw’s in Massachusetts) are almost never ripe. That’s fine, I’ll leave them on the counter to ripen and check them often. Well it doesn’t really matter because at least half of them are bad when I cut them open. What has worked for me lately is buying organic bagged avocados from Wegmans or the bag of teeny tiny avocados from Trader Joe’s. I treat them exactly the same and ripen on the counter and they rarely let me down.

Don’t put them in the fridge and when you select them, pop the little nugget off of the end and look at the exposed dot. If it is brown at all - pick a different one. You want all avocado green under that little nugget.
i had a brown one under the stem and it was still good so i go buy the touch rest
Is it the Avocado from Mexico brand? I always have bad luck with those.

Like blipsman said, buy green and let ripen at home. We get our avocados from Aldi. They are inexpensive but are still very green. We bring them home and let them ripen in a Southern facing window, When they are almost ripe we put them in the refrigerator to preserve them until we are ready to eat them.
i do try to buy them green. i'm gonna buy about 5 avocados and if they are bad i'm gonna give up
There’s sometimes a bit of stem left. Flick it off in the store. If it’s green, it’s good. If it’s brown it black, the avocado is bad. When you hold it, it should yield slightly under a bit of pressure. That’s a ripe avocado.

Avocados can be so tricky! I wonder if there is regional variation in how easy it is to get good ones. When I lived in DC, they could be really hit and miss. I live in Portland now, and they've always been perfect after an overnight in a paper bag. When I buy them, I make sure not buy ones that are at all squishy nor ones that are really great and hard. Aiming for a middle ground between those two, since the squishy ones are probably already bad and I find it too challenging to hit the sweet spot for ripening the really green ones.

Honestly, I never have this problem. I buy them hard, leave them on the table, monitor them daily, and put them in the fridge when I can feel a little give, to slow the ripening process. We buy them weekly (Texas).

I know you said you learned this on reddit and other places online, but since this process isn't working for you, you should try another. I occasionally buy a bag of 4-6 avocados. I leave them on the counter to ripen, checking them every day and it takes about 2-3 days. When they have a little give, they're ready. What I usually do then is cut them open, remove the pit, and cut them in slices or chunks, and then freeze them. Avocados go bad very quickly, as you know, and this keeps me from wasting any. I do not put them in bags, in the fridge (unless saving a small amount for a quick future use), or in with apples.

If avocados are bad inside upon ripening, it has something to do with how they are stored after picking from the tree. They were the subject of a cooking show that I paid attention to for a change. I want to say because they were stored at too cold of a temperature before you bought them.

Some years nearly all of the avocados are like that. 2024 was one of those bad years. 2025 the avocados were great, you couldn't mess them up. Hopefully 2026 isn't another bad year.

I live in New York City and I have not had a good avocado since the pandemic. Exactly what you describe, the second they aren’t rock hard they are black. Even one the color is right, the flavor is really sour.

I recently discovered frozen avocado chunks at the supermarket, its not great for every application but you're guaranteed to have usable avocado if you only make guacamole once in a while.
It sounds like you are letting them way overripen. You said in one of the comments that you are letting them ripen in a bag with an apple for up to NINE days?! This is...way too long. Unless you are in a big hurry to eat your avocado, skip the bag + fruit technique. Just leave them on the counter and they will ripen in a couple of days. And no need to refrigerate unless it will be awhile before you can eat them.

I only buy the ones from Mexico. They have much higher success rate of being good one.
Buy them green and rock hard. Store them in the refrigerator. Put them on the window sill three days before using them. If they are still black then try some from a different store. Never by avocados from Walmart.

Watch a video on how to buy avocado. If they're already soft no need to bag and ripen them. If they're stiff hard then check them daily but trick is that little stem coming off easily means ripe. If its brown underneath is over ripe Return them for a refund if they are really just selling you trash

I've heard that apples overipen other stuff very quickly. I'd try without the paper bag and apple. Most of time they will ripen just fine on the counter
You are likely waiting too long. As soon as the peel changes to darker green they are probably ripe. You don't want them to be very soft. The peels are tough. So you really have to push hard to see if they are ripe.
I buy what I need, select them properly, store then in the fridge, and never have this problem. it's .most likely poor selection, and poor storing.
