Yeah that's called being depressed
How does that connect to depression?
It's been like this since I remember
Most of the time I don't feel present, not in the moment and it's almost impossible to change that by will
The only things that make me feel present / real / grounded - are certain situations that bring out very hard emotions or different amounts of stimulants (alcohol, nic), sometimes being really tired, sometimes a nostalgic smell or even a deeper breath in the shower
But these moments come at random and go away really quickly
They're often anxiety inducing for a minute too
It's really hard to truly enjoy anything because of that, no matter where and who I'm with...
Yeah that's called being depressed
How does that connect to depression?
That's exactly the same for me. I've never heard of anyone else before who experiences the same. Dissociation is hard.
It’s reassuring when you realize others experience the same thing, even if it feels isolating in the moment
Finding out you're not alone can be such a relief even when what you're dealing with is really difficult ❤️
dissociation/depersonalization/derealization, yippee. as someone who's been there, this sounds like something i could've written. here's an article about dissociation I found relatable, hope it helps you feel less alone at least (WARNING: MENTIONS OF BAD MENTAL HEALTH, STRUGGLES WITH GENDER DYSPHORIA/BEING TRANS, SUICIDALITY IN ARTICLE) (note: experiencing dissociation doesn't necessarily mean you are transgender, but being transgender and its dysphoria *can* manifest as dissociation) https://genderanalysis.net/articles/that-was-dysphoria-8-signs-and-symptoms-of-indirect-gender-dysphoria/amp/
Dissociation is a different thing.. I've been reading about the other 3 (depersonalization, derealization, depression) a lot and nothing really fits what I'm experiencing
yeah, some days it feels like I’m just going through the motions and nothing's actually real
You're definitely not alone feeling this way
yep, sometimes it’s like I’m just watching my life unfold, super strange
try grounding techniques whenever you feel detached, they really help me when I’m overwhelmed
What are those?
you're definitely not alone, it’s tough to feel real sometimes, even little things can help ground you
you're not alone, it hits me too when I'm overly tired or stressed, those moments can feel so fleeting
Sounds like a serious mental health issue.
