  The most dangerous time for a cyclist is stopping and starting. That's when most injuries occur. Yielding at a stop sign, rather than stopping, makes much for sense for a cyclist.

These guys don’t look like they slowed but look up “Idaho Stop” laws. They allow cyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs.

  Yeah, this would be fine in a state with idaho stops, imo. But Texas doesn't have any Idaho stop law, so this is technically illegal. Although as someone that bikes, not being able to Idaho stop sounds awful

  This is clearly not an Idaho stop. An Idaho stop is where the cyclist slows down, checks the intersection to see if it's clear, and then continues treating the stop sign like a yield sign. Here we had 3 cyclists barrel through an intersection at full speed without a care for other cars or right of way.

In my 30 years of watching thousands of cyclists, 99% of people who do this have those “sponsored” style spandex on, I’m assuming the outfit gives them some kind of main character syndrome that makes them think laws don’t apply to them.

Several years ago I was on my way home from work and a cyclist wearing the whole Lance Armstrong getup blasts a stop sign in front of me, forcing me to slam on my brakes (I had no stop sign but his road in the intersection does). I laid on the horn and yelled out "Nice stop sign!" He flipped me off until he was out of view. Two weeks later we get a call of a cyclist hit by a car about a mile where this happened. I responded and was the first on the scene. Similar intersection where the cross traffic had no stop sign but he did. You can guess how he got hit.

  As someone who’s both a driving enthusiast and a bicyclist, I don’t understand the entitlement from cyclists. A bunch in my area also ignore laws. There’s a few roads here with a 40-50mph speed limit going through rolling hills in a dense forest, there’s no chance drivers would be able to react to a red light runner cyclist. Some of these people just have a death wish!

  What is the full Lance setup, EPO and blood doping? Or are you talking about someone who just happens to wear the proper gear while participating in a sporting activity? There's a reason cyclists wear those shorts, the helmet and that jersey. If you bike for longer than 30 mins at a time you need those tools to stay dry, stay cool, prevent chafing and the jerseys have pockets on the small of the back so you don't lose your stuff.

There's no way I wouldn't follow traffic laws on my bike. I do have a huge fear of people using the bike lane as turn lanes to "get out of the way" while turning right or turning into me while not paying attention. It's just too wild to assume anything anymore on any wheeled transportation.

  Yeah the alternative here is that they would have stopped, and then OP would have had to sit and wait for them to take 10x longer to clear the intersection. What the bikers did here was completely reasonable given the circumstances.
