  Don't worry too much about it. She was just making sure no chicks were left in her nest. After that, she'll still spend weeks teaching the fledgling show to be a bird (finding food, hide from predators, etc). They do that because sometimes one chick can take a day or so longer than the others to decide to leave the nest, so she keeps an eye on it. I had blue tits like these in my pantry vent, with both parents running shuttle service to feed seven chicks. Found them by mistake when I went for cereal and heard tweeting. I managed to set up a camera without disturbing them and recorded the fledgling stage. The first one left at 6 AM, the others slowly followed. One straggled for a long while, their parents coming up to check every once in a while and finally left at 6:45.

I loved seeing how the mother bird was cushioning her nest with other birds' feathers and fur, making it look so cozy. When I brush my Golden Retriever, I leave a basket of her fur outside, so the birds can use it. I hope her fur has cushioned, comforted and insulated many many baby birds. 🥰

  Don’t want to poop on your parade but if you use topical flea/tick prevention, please don’t do this. Those chemicals can kill the birdies. Just a heads up. We don’t use topical, so we do the same as you and leave it out for the birds to use. 🙂

  That's how my dad accidentally became the proud grandpa of a murder of crows. He worked as a cable repair tech, the bin out back of his work is full of wire. One afternoon he found a crow all tangled up in the wire and freaking out. Dad helped them out, crow flew off. Dad took out his snips and cut some pieces of wire down to a manageable size, *closed the damn bin lid*, and left a nice pile of shiney wire on top for the crow. Well.. of course this started a thing. Dad's work van started having coins and bolts and sparkley things left on the hood. Dad would snip wire and leave it on the bin lid. He spotted them taking off with it and located their nest pretty quickly. It was the shiniest and prettiest nest. They're nesting. Dad buys specific crow feed for nesting Mama crows. Because Dad, is actually a Disney princess. Fast forward and the crows bring their babies to the nice man who has shinies and snacks. Now Dad has 5 crows who greet him every morning and SCREAM AND DIVE BOMB EVERYONE ELSE WHO ISNT DAD. The parents ended up leaving and moving on but the babies grew up and stayed close. Once Dad retired he tried to get them to follow him home. Never managed to do it, but he did instruct a few neighbors and coworkers on how to befriend his grandbabies. Make sure the bin is closed, leave some wire on top in the spring. They like X Y Z snacks. He stops by every so often with snacks and shinies. They have families of their own now. And they've got a handful of other humans that treat them very nicely.

  I have blue tits nesting in my garden every year, I am astonished at how many times they come and go from the nesting boxes every day. It is constant for hours. I have often wished I could push some nesting materials into the box to save them collecting one piece at a time but I know not to interfere, they are SO hard working
