Okay, what’s the deal with having to install an update every single time i go to play a game? i understand it’s like bug patches and new features for controller or whatever. but i honestly don’t care. it’s brand new, it’s running good enough for me. i wish i could just play a game without all these delays. it’s like trying to watch a show with ads every 10 minutes every episode. i miss the days where i could just turn on my console and play a game. that simple. is there anyway around having to do updates? bc im playing 007 first light and it’s making me wait 58 freaking minutes until i can pick up playing where i left off. and i’m NOT even using online mode - i never do - i just want to play the story good ole fashioned way . is it like this with Xbox too? & also, are there ways around not being forced to do updates on PS5? i’ve been out the loop for awhile. but I’m honestly about to give up and just sell my playstation at this point - and it’s brand new so i just don’t understand what the heck needs to be updated anyway. thanks in advance.

There should be a setting to keep games up to date so that it updates when you’re not playing it but there’s no way around the updates
okay thanks. but thats only if its in rest mode right? and only if it’s online i like to turn it all the way off each time for several reasons that matter to me. and also, i don’t like staying connected to online unless i have to.
You don't though? There's a button that cannot be overseen "start without update" And if you talk about firmware then it's because someone found exploits that could cause damage (piracy mainly) to Sony so they force you to update to minimize the user base that could theoretically hack their console
it used to show that i could skip that, but now it’s not letting me proceed unless i do. i click update later and it takes me right back to same promt only way forward is to update. it just started forcing it on me as of today
Turn off automatic updates and just say "no, play offline" if they try the update. Or turn on auto update so it does this when you're not playing.
To stop game updates Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Automatic Updates - toggle off Auto-Download. To stop system updates Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings - turn off Download Update Files Automatically.

Are you putting your system into rest mode between sessions and allowing automatic downloads during that time? If not I’d start there.
no i prefer to shut it down all the way each time. i only play on weekends
You can also let it update in rest mode btw. And when you turn the pas5 on, it just notifies you that it has done the update
