Yeah it was for my great-grandfather when I was around 13
Who was the person in question?, what was your reaction throughout the “event”?
Did you cry, felt sadness, felt peace for thinking that the person in question finally got the well-deserved eternal rest?...............................
Yeah it was for my great-grandfather when I was around 13
Yeah I remember. It was my grandpa. It was pretty sad, lots of crying. It was catholic and the priest was Irish. He pretended to know my grandparents better than he did, and made up stories about them that didn’t seem like them at all. At the time I was evangelical (now an atheist), but I remember so many goddamn rosaries. I still have some of the memorized just from that. I sat next to my cousin, who was just a little younger than me, maybe 9, and he was just talking and being so loud, I remember thinking it was really disrespectful. My grandpa was in the air force so we went from the chapel to the air force base cemetery and they buried him there. It was sad. I did cry a few times, but I think I’d mostly gotten my tears out beforehand.
Yes, it was my dad’s when I was 6 years old. I didn’t really understand what was going on.
Same, I had just turned 10. Honestly when I first was told I was like: oh that's good, he's in heaven now right? No idea what death was and it didn't really make sense for another year or so
Yes
Some young guy that was supposedly a cousin of a cousin that I had never meet. I was like 8 years old and my mom felt compelled to have to go to it and bring me along
My grandpa in 1978. I was 6. I still have good memories of him. I remember asking my much older cousin why can’t they wake him up and the hospital use one of those breathing apparatus things. I must have saw it on my favorite tv show called Emergency
My gran when I was 30, hadn't been to one before, had been to see the body at the house, to stand around as her herse leaves, but never a funeral because I couldn't be bothered. Didn't cry, death happens, it is what it is. Sounds cold but she was old and had like 5 decades of smoking and drinking under her belt.
I’ve been told I was at my grandfather’s funeral around age 6. No memory of it. First funeral I remember was at 16, best friend. Felt no peace. Nope.
When I was about 9, my best friend died. They had an open-casket viewing, so his was the first dead body I ever saw.
It was for an older cousin of mine who was in high school. I was 8 or 9 at the time. They told me he accidentally fell asleep after he started the car in the closed garage. I took that as fact until I got much older and realized it didn't add up. I'm not one to pick at old wounds so I've never sought clarification, but I can't help but wonder if that was the fable my family told to just me, or if it's what they told themselves.
Yeah. I remember. 10th grade. My best friend shot himself. I cried. I was sad for losing my friend and I was angry at the people who bullied him into doing it. I was angry at the teachers who turned their backs when he needed help. I think about it every day. That was half my life ago but I am still burdened by the weight.
Grand mother
The last and only one I was on was for the cousin of my gma.I was too little to care.
My grandma passed away when I was 8. I cried uncontrollably and I don’t think that grief will ever go away. She was my protector.
I went to my uncle’s when I was 16. As we all filed past the casket for the last time before they closed the lid, I saw a few people grasp his hand, so I did also. He was so cold it was like grabbing a bathtub. Haven’t done it since.
the only funerals to happen in my family were when I was growing up and I was never allowed to go on them
